There's a particular kind of patient observation in A.J. Bo****no's work.

Collecting New York Times headlines on microfiche from 1990 to 2005 and finding the order hiding inside them.

He didn't add anything. The color was found, the language provided.

The piece says what it needs to on its own. New York Times Headlines (1990–2005) by AJ Bo****no. Part of Skyline x Maharam Digital Projects Collection.

Most birds can't see glass. That's a huge problem, and it's one my industry is uniquely positioned to solve.

Mark Toth had the privilege of joining an aldermanic tour of Flyway City, the new exhibition at the Chicago Architecture Center designed and co-curated by Studio Gang. Hosting the event with Jeanne Gang, Eleanor Esser Gorski of the Chicago Architecture Center, Daniella Pereira of Openlands, and Bryan Lenz of the American Bird Conservancy, alongside members of Chicago City Council, was a concerted attempt to change our infrastructure by getting designers, conservationists, manufacturers, and policymakers in the same room.

More than a billion birds die each year in the U.S. from collisions with building glass. Chicago sits directly on the Mississippi Flyway, which makes us a major destination for birders and means our skyline is a significant hazard for avian populations.

What the exhibition makes clear is that there is promise in policy. New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. have all adopted bird-friendly design ordinances. We are working to make Chicago next.

Every brand has the guidelines. The hard part is turning them into a wall.

On paper, a brand is a color, a feeling, a way of working. In glass, it has to hold up: a back-painted black that reads exactly the same at every dealership, a printed entry that makes a statement before anyone says a word, a glassboard surface a design team can actually think on.

All of it fabricated in our Humboldt Park glass studio in Chicago.

A good night for a good cause. Last Thursday, the team was at Association House of Chicago's annual Faces of Hope Gala.

For 127 years, Association House has shown up for people across the city with behavioral health, child welfare, education, and workforce support. They are also our neighbors here in Humboldt Park, which means their work is close to home.

Skyline has been a proud supporter for years, and nights like this are a good reminder of why.

Our SkySafe bird-safe glass is on display at the Chicago Architecture Center, and we couldn't be prouder of the company it keeps.

Flyway City: Architecture for a Flourishing Ecosystem opened this week at the CAC, designed and co-curated by Studio Gang. The exhibition explores how cities can become safer, more welcoming habitats for birds and wildlife. In the US alone, more than 1 billion birds die each year from collisions with building glass. This exhibition is about changing that.

We were honored to see our Kresge College project at UC Santa Cruz featured in the gallery. Working with Studio Gang, we developed a custom bird-safe pattern with silhouettes of native animals, etched onto surface one of the insulated glass units. At first glance it reads as a simple dot pattern. Look closer and you'll find the local ecosystem written into the glass. Since installation, bird strikes have been essentially zero.

Mark Toth was there for the opening, where architect and Studio Gang founder Jeanne Gang welcomed the crowd. Supporting work like this is exactly why we love what we do.

Flyway City runs through January 3, 2027 in the Skyscraper Gallery. Worth a visit: https://www.architecture.org/visit-the-center/exhibitions/flyway-city
