Are you running your business, or is your business running you?

There's a difference between being a business owner and creating a job for yourself.

In this clip from my conversation on the "Change the Reel" podcast, I'm sharing a few wisdom nuggets about what it really means to be an owner.

When you're building a business, especially in the beginning, you're going to wear a lot of hats. But the goal isn't to spend forever doing everything yourself. It's to build something that gives you more control over your time, your money, and your future.

Because here's the thing: You didn't start a business just to become your own overworked employee.

So, let me ask you: Are you building a business that works for you, or one that depends on you doing everything?

“Multiple zeros are sexy. Multiple commas are sexier.”

And yes, I said what I said!

I recently joined the "Change the Reel" podcast, where I shared a few wisdom nuggets about money, entrepreneurship, knowing your worth, and what success really looks like.

We talked about the stories we tell ourselves about money, why so many business owners undercharge for their expertise, and the importance of building a business that supports the life you actually want to live.

One of my biggest messages? Money is a tool. It's not a measure of your worth, and it doesn't have to control your decisions.

We also got into finding your people, showing up authentically, and why success doesn't happen overnight.

It was a fun, candid conversation, and I hope you'll take something valuable away from it!

Confidence isn't about pretending to have all the answers.

It's about having reliable information when important decisions need to be made.
Financially confident leaders develop simple habits.

They review reports consistently.
They understand trends.
They ask better questions.
They make decisions before problems become emergencies.

Every confident CEO knows their numbers.
Not because they're accountants.
Because they're leaders.

Save this post as your monthly financial reminder.

Many business owners think confidence is something you're either born with or you're not.

I disagree.

The most confident leaders I've worked with aren't fearless.
They're informed.

They know:
• Their profit margins.
• Their cash flow.
• Their monthly trends.
• The financial impact of their decisions.
Because they understand their numbers, they don't have to second guess every move.

Knowledge replaces fear.
Confidence begins with clarity.

When you stop wondering and start measuring, your business becomes much easier to lead.

What's one financial number you'd like to understand better this year?

09/04/2026

Most profit leaks don't arrive as major financial emergencies.
They show up quietly.

A subscription no one remembers.
An expense that slowly increases over time.
A process that wastes hours every week.
A vendor relationship that has never been renegotiated.

One leak may only cost a few hundred dollars.
Ten leaks could cost tens of thousands over a year.

Every unnecessary expense steals future growth.
Before asking how to make more money, ask how much money is quietly slipping away.

Save this checklist and review one category this week.

09/03/2026

Every month your business pays for dozens of small things.

A software subscription.
An unused app.
Extra processing fees.
Duplicate tools.
Automatic renewals.

Individually?
They're easy to ignore.

Collectively?
They're quietly reducing your profit every single month.

Hidden costs compound.
The businesses that consistently improve profitability aren't always generating more revenue.

They're paying closer attention to where the money leaves.
Cash deserves respect.
Every dollar should have a purpose.

This week, review your recurring subscriptions. You might be surprised what you find.

When business owners want to grow, the first instinct is usually to increase sales.

More marketing.
More networking.
More leads.
But what if the real opportunity isn't making more money?
What if it's keeping more of it?

I often find hidden profit leaks like:
• Software subscriptions no one uses.
• Duplicate expenses.
• Vendor contracts that haven't been reviewed in years.
• Payroll inefficiencies. • Services priced below their true cost.

None of these seem significant on their own.

Together?
They quietly drain thousands of dollars each year.
Profit leaks hide in plain sight.

Before chasing more revenue, ask yourself one question:
"Am I protecting the profit I've already earned?"

What's one recurring business expense you've been meaning to review?

Successful businesses don't grow because they guess better.
They grow because they measure better.

Every month your financial reports answer questions like:
• Where are profits increasing?
• Which expenses are growing too quickly?
• Is cash flow improving?
• Are pricing decisions supporting long-term growth?

Data becomes valuable when it changes decisions.

That's when numbers stop feeling intimidating and start becoming one of your greatest business assets.

"I've been busy all year... why doesn't it feel like I'm making money?"
I hear this more often than you might think.

Here's what usually happens.
Revenue increases.
Expenses increase even faster.
Margins quietly shrink.
Cash flow becomes tighter.

From the outside, the business looks successful.
Inside, it feels stressful.

That's why I always say:
Revenue is only chapter one.
The rest of the story lives inside your financial reports.

When you understand what your numbers are actually saying, you stop making decisions based on assumptions and start making decisions with confidence.
Visibility creates confidence.

If you're ready to understand what your numbers are trying to tell you, let's start the conversation. Use this link to book a clarity call: https://bit.ly/4y5g4Ef.

You can't manufacture this kind of spirit.

We managed to catch this raw, unscripted moment on video. My niece asked my 90-year-old father who was going to "win" the Boston Marathon.

Without missing a beat, he just points to himself.

And when she laughs, he delivers the punchline with a straight face: "If they don't let me win, they're out of the will."

This is him. This is the humor, the wit, and the unstoppable determination that's driving this entire adventure. He's not just going to Boston; he's going to win it, his way.

The support so far has been incredible. The Boston Harbor Hotel is helping us create a true champion's welcome. We're talking to running stores. The author of the book that inspired him is helping us make connections.

The "Mile Marker Moments" campaign is in full swing. We're collecting video messages to surprise him with along the route. Your messages are what will truly make him feel like a winner.

The Ask is Simple: If this 90-year-old's spirit made you smile, take 30 seconds and make a video to cheer him on.

Email your videos to: [email protected]

Let's give him the hero's welcome he's already claimed for himself.
