Everyone is focused on improving written communication right now. Better prompts. Better emails. Better AI-generated messaging. Better decks. Better talking points.

Yes, written communication matters.

But trust is not built through perfectly written sentences.

Trust is built through human experience.

How you show up in the meeting.
How you respond under pressure.
How present you are in conversation.
Whether people feel heard, respected and connected when they interact with you.

AI can help people sound smarter. It cannot help them feel more authentic.

The leaders who stand out in the future will not simply communicate clearly. They will make people feel confident, valued and understood in every interaction.

Because long after people forget the words, they remember the experience of being in the room with you.

Back at my mom and dad’s farm in Wisconsin, I heard my dad repeat something he told me my entire childhood:

“Show up on time, follow through and be kind to everyone and you’ll be in the top 1%.”

As a little girl… it drove me crazy. 😄

Now? I realize he was teaching executive presence long before I ever gave it a name.

Influence is not built in the big moments alone. It’s built behind the scenes in the everyday choices people remember Monday to Monday®.

Do you follow through when you say you will?
Do your actions match what you ask from others?
Do your nonverbal behaviors reflect trust, respect and consistency?

Your personal brand is shaped long before you walk on stage or enter the boardroom.

People remember how reliable you are.
They remember how you make them feel.
They remember whether your actions matched your words.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend. It is a reminder of the strength, sacrifice and presence of those who served something greater than themselves.

The men and women we honor today understood influence in its purest form. They built trust through action. They created impact through courage. They led with consistency even in the hardest moments.

Their legacy challenges all of us to think differently about how we show up Monday to Monday®.

Will people remember the titles we held… or the impact we made on their lives?

Today, we remember those who gave everything so others could live with freedom, opportunity and hope. Their influence continues long after their service ended.

That kind of impact never fades.

Every year, my team and I come together for a development day. In the months leading up to it, we collectively decide what we want to learn. This can range from individual skills, team dynamics or technology advancements.

You name it - we consider it.

We choose what matters most to the business and what matters most to our own professional development.

Then we are 100% in for one day, one dedicated day. No meetings. No phone calls. No disruptions.

Team building requires a commitment of everyone, beginning with the leader. Leaders set the stage for what the day will look like. If you're bought in and see the value in helping your team grow, they will welcome it with open arms.

What are you doing to develop your team? How are you helping them grow as people, as professionals and as a team?

If you need ideas, we can help. https://staceyhankeinc.com/workshops

The strongest executive presence isn’t built in high-stakes moments.

It’s built in the everyday moments most people overlook.

The same is true for influence.

Too many leaders become reactive with communication, only preparing when the big presentation, meeting, or opportunity arrives.

But influence is built Monday to Monday® through consistent practice, preparation and presence.

Every conversation this week is shaping how others experience you.

Are you practicing intentionally, or simply reacting in the moment?

Great minds think alike...or maybe they are just related.

My team and I had the most incredible professional development session with Jill Mueller from Darcy Luoma Coaching & Consulting on Friday.

One of the exercises had the team choose a variety of priorities they felt were needed for ongoing success. My sisters - Crystal and Lisa - and I chose development.

I believe it matters because business is changing too fast to rely on what worked a few years ago. The leaders and teams making the biggest impact right now are the ones willing to keep learning, improving and adapting how they communicate, lead and connect with people.

Development isn't just about building skills. It’s about staying credible, relevant and trusted in how you show up every day.

When was the last time you committed to real professional development?

Stop talking to data points.

Start talking to humans.

AI can write your talking points.
It can polish your emails.
It can prepare your messaging.

What it cannot do is create impact.

Impact is human.

Eye connection.
Intentional pauses.
Listening without distraction.
Adapting in the moment.

Research from PwC found that 82% of employees want more human interaction at work, not less.

As communication becomes more automated, influence becomes more personal.

The leaders people remember Monday to Monday® are the ones who make others feel seen, heard and valued.

Leaders love to believe results are proof of influence.

“We’re profitable.”
“My team respects me.”
“I’m a strong communicator.”

Maybe.

Yet profitability does not automatically equal trust.
Authority does not equal connection.
Talking does not equal influence.

Here's how you know for sure.

AI is moving fast.

The companies winning right now are not the ones replacing human connection. They are the ones elevating it.

Loved partnering with Allego Inc. — an INC. 500 company and leader in AI-powered sales enablement — for a keynote focused on one of the most important conversations happening in business today:

How do we embrace AI without losing the human side of influence?

Their CEO, Yuchun Lee, said it perfectly: “AI prepares us for the conversation. It doesn’t replace it.”

Exactly.

AI can help you move faster.
It can sharpen your ideas.
It can prepare your messaging.

Yet your executive presence, your trustworthiness and your ability to connect with another human being?

That still comes down to you.

The future of leadership is not AI versus human connection.

It is leaders who know how to combine both, Monday to Monday®.

Special thanks to Mark Magnacca, President & Co-Founder; Erik Fowler, COO/CRO and Yuchun Lee, CEO, for allowing me to be a part of their innovative and thoughtful event.

Most people don’t listen to understand.

They listen to respond.
To defend.
To control the conversation.
To prove they’re the smartest person in the room.

Your listeners know the difference.

05/08/2026

AI is making everyone sound more polished in writing. In-person communication is now your only real differentiator.

Most leaders are getting worse at it, not better.

When was the last time you gave as much thought to your in-person message as you do your written messages.
