Beverly took home two awards in the Art Institute’s window design contest! The Beverly Professional Building, in partnership with MPA Arts Educator Lisa Jean Allswede and Morgan Park Academy students, won ‘Most Creative’ for their striking installation. Parent volunteer Erica Twomey accepted the award on her behalf.

Lori Parrett won the Department of Planning & Development Award for her cake display in Cakewalk Chicago’s windows — her third win in a row. Can you spot Bob Ross in the display?

Congrats to both winners, and thanks to everyone who brought their creativity to the project! Displays and the The Art Institute of Chicago Summer Exhibition Willem de Kooning Drawing are up through Sept. 20!

Chicago Business Affairs and Consumer Protection’s 2025 Small Business Ecosystem Report is now available to download!

In late June, the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) gathered the Neighborhood Business Development Centers across the city for ChiBizChat. In addition to program updates and breakout sessions, BACP Chief Small Business Officer Lotika Pai shared insights into the 2025 Small Business Ecosystem Report. The report grew out of roundtable discussions in 2025 and will inform policies and strategies to strengthen business growth in neighborhoods across the city. Download the report at https://simplebooklet.com/2025nbdcsmallbusinessecosystemreport =1

19th Ward Alderman Matt O’Shea was part of the closing panel at ChiBizChat, and he shared great recommendations for new business owners: connect with the alderman’s office early and often in the process of opening a business, be transparent when applying for a business license, and reach out for guidance—to both the alderman’s office and business associations. Thanks to Alderman O’Shea for sharing his insights with the group!
