The National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors (NAFED) is a trade association serving companies that sell, distribute, and service fire equipment. Nearly all of our members sell and service portable fire extinguishers in addition to a full range of fire protection services including the installation and/or maintenance of pre-engineered kitchen systems, industrial systems, fire alarms, sec

urity systems, sprinklers, fire hose and standpipes, and emergency and exit lighting. You can find NAFED members working in commercial, industrial, and residential settings making buildings safe and giving individuals the tools they need to fight early-stage fires.

🔥 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS DON’T JUST HELP PROTECT LIVES & PROPERTY—THEY CAN HELP REDUCE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF FIRE.

A study commissioned by the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association and conducted by Jensen Hughes examined the impact portable fire extinguishers can have on the carbon footprint of building fires.

The findings are worth your attention:
🧯 Portable extinguishers can further reduce fire-related carbon emissions in a sprinklered building by 93.6% beyond sprinklers alone.
🔥 When portable fire extinguishers and sprinklers work together, the study found a 99% reduction in fire-related carbon emissions compared with an uncontrolled fire.
The reason is simple: the earlier a fire is successfully suppressed, the less material it can burn—and the fewer emissions it can produce.

This is a great reminder that portable fire extinguishers play an important role in a comprehensive fire protection strategy.

YOUR INSPECTION DATA MAY BE YOUR BIGGEST AI ADVANTAGE.

Everybody’s talking about AI in fire protection—but AI is only as valuable as the data you give it.

In Episode 97 of The Fire Protection Podcast, Drew Slocum sits down with Jimmy Snowden and John Ryan from Inspect Point to discuss why the inspection, system, and asset data fire protection companies are already collecting could become one of their most valuable resources.

They dig into:
🔹 Why PDFs and spreadsheets can limit what you can do with AI
🔹 Capturing better system and asset-level data
🔹 Barcoding equipment down to individual components
🔹 How AI agents could change inspection and service workflows
🔹 Changes impacting healthcare documentation
🔹 The 2026 edition of NFPA 25
🔹 Why NFPA 25 may be one of the most complex standards in the trade

If you own or manage a fire protection company, this is a conversation worth watching. The companies building better data today may be the ones best positioned to take advantage of AI tomorrow.

When critical components are difficult to inspect, test, or service, reliability can suffer over the life of the system. Smart design considers long-term maintenance just as much as initial installation, helping keep water-based fire protection systems ready when they're needed most.
