Coffee Hour Chicago

Coffee Hour Chicago Coffee Hour is an opportunity for Mental Health Professionals of color to fellowship and discuss the

Multiculturalism:

Though Multiculturalism is considered the new wave of psychology|social work, there are few ethnically and culturally diverse practitioners at the forefront of its conception. This group allows for an increase in multicultural awareness aimed at trainees and professionals that identify as members of minoritized groups of color. Self-Care:

Self -care should be a requirement in a

ll fields. In dealing with the emotions of our clients, we often forget to find healthy ways of coping with our own stress as it relates to the clients we serve and our personal lives. However, our desire to help often leaves us with little to no energy to support ourselves and to ensure our mental health and well-being. Being surrounded by those who can both empathize and sympathize with the joys and stresses of working in a helping profession is integral in the process of self-care. It gives you an opportunity to open up in ways that may be unavailable when with those who may not understand the subtle nuances of your work.

Well family it's happening, , and I are going to host a 3 part Grown Folx Career Day that's set to kick off on Sunday, August 21st at 1pm-2:30 CST. If you want to join just drop it here in the chat or message me your email so I can include you on the zoom invite.

What careers, fields do you want us to focus on during this series? What part of the application/interview process do you find the most challenging and require support? How does salary transparency impact your current career and desire to move to a new field/or advance in your current field?

We'll get things going with:

August 21st - Back to Basics: From the Application to the Screener Call. Come learn new ways to approach your job search or career change--we're starting with reading the job description and taking you all the way through that nerve-wracking initial phone call with the hiring manager.

On September 4th, 1-2:30 CST we're hosting - Starting from the Bottom: From Mentee to Mentor. Networking in the new generation is about gratitude and modeling what you want to see in your field.

And Lastly September 25th, 1-2:3 CST we'll focus on, Not Your Grandpappy's Economy: Burnout and the Career Lifecycle. Look, we need to normalize quitting, pivoting, and stepping away from institutions to start something new in your own image.

Hope to see you there.
