Memories: I came across this old photo from fall of 1967.
Driver: Jon Brown at 8 years old , Supervisor: Charlie Brown at 36 years, Trainees: 1st Show calves , Tractor: JD 3010 - think it was 1961 model
Observations from 58+ years later: Lots of circles of life and trends represented here. (1) John Deere 3010 tractors are still used today (although- tricycle front ends are mostly gone)- this was the first tractor I drove at 5 years old , (2) Those Charolais show calves would compete today (I've experienced the continual never ending change in show cattle types from short & stocky to tall & gutless to unsound & overly thick and all lot in between) , (3) I still need supervision (who doesn't need advise), I miss him every day, (4) Remember those '60s striped overalls (heard they are trending back),and Dad in his hunting cap and duck carhart jacket (really never out of style), (6) Even back then I was all about finding a better way to do something (i.e.. rigged up a gin pole on tractor to exercise calves - back then we walked & trotted a minimum of 1+ mile every other day). (7) Probably taken with a Kodak Brownie camera - The most obvious of all is technology advances. I could go on about the changes and parallels in those 58+years but take a moment and reflect on your memories of rural farm life.
