Under the direction of Executive Director Jason Schwenkler, the Center for Economic Development is a division of the North State Planning and Development Collective
at CSU, Chico. As Northern California continues to grow demographically and economically, the Center for Economic Development (CED) at CSU, Chico is committed to helping communities prepare and plan for future growth. Helping communiti

The CED also assists Northern California communities to sustain growth and promote empowerment and expertise among its residents. With these goals in mind, it is the philosophy of the CED to:
Provide the highest quality economic development assistance to the communities of Northern California. Promote the transfer of information and knowledge from the university and other sources to economic development and planning practitioners, and the general public. Establish and foster partnerships between workforce development entities, community and vocational colleges, policy makers, communities, and all organizations that are in support of assisting growth in Northern California. The Center for Economic Development (CED) was founded in September 1986. Its purpose is to act as a lens to focus the resources of California State University, Chico and other institutions of higher education onto the issues and problems facing the communities of California. The Center, along with the Geographical Information Center at CSU, Chico, came under the umbrella of the North State Planning and Development Collective in 2018.
