We are supporting the 2024 Butte TREX Prescribed Fire Training Exchange this year, providing an Incident Commander for the event and a Type VI wildland fire engine. On Sunday we trained people on the operation of wildland pumps, and practiced mobile attack, hoselays, and spot fire suppression.

We are hoping to be burning grasslands next weekend near the Mechoopda Casino, but may have to change our plans if the weather doesn't cooperate!

Working in Cohasset for this training, the need for rural communities to build with wildland fire skills is right in our faces!

We captured 28,000 aerial images of burn within Cohasset and Lower Chico Creek Canyon areas today.
We are using them to map fire effects on the vegetation and to evaluate erosion hazard potential, but they are also useful for documenting fire damage for insurance claims.
We also captured infrared imagery to map where vegetation is still living (bright red tones on the samples, below).
