Our first production run of our 0-200 engine build stands. 24 tall without caster, 29 with casters. 24 inch base with a 10 inch top plate. Heavy duty 3/16 laser cut steel plate with heavy duty lockable swivel casters. Comes in red, blue, black and black. 525.00 plus shipping. 375.00 “weld it yourself”. Includes casters and last cut metal only. Next production run will include oblong hub holes to accommodate larger engines. PM is for your orders.

ELECTRIC AIR RACING. HMMMMM. No photos for this post as it’s still mostly under wraps. We were approached to facilitate the possible construction of a electric racer. It’s nothing that’s currently on the market and It’s not throwing an electric motor in an existing airframe. It’s a conceptual airframe wrapped around an electric power plant. It will be a totally unique one-off craft that could possibly change air-racing and give new life to upcoming events. Small, simple fast and elegant. As much as I love cubic inches and the smell of avgas, This concept is so unconventional so wild and unique that We here at Dimension Three are 200 percent on board with it. I love being a part of one off stuff.

As I begin to finally fulfill all my long lasting obligations. Projects that people have supported when it was just a concept. We have decided to venture into the market of formula one wings. With no one else’s building race wings anymore we have developed our own. The prototype will be started in late January with the wing hopefully done in late February. Price point for this wing will be in the range of 28,500.00 dollars. Will be all molded carbon fiber construction. Our goal is to safely keep the wing in the 100 pound category. Looking forward to a visit from Chip Mapoles tomorrow to inspect progress on his Miss USA racer. He’s back from China and here in Chico. We’ve done a tone of work to his plane and have another month or so until it’s painted and ready to see the sky’s of Florida. It’s been a long haul as everything has been custom fabricated around his aircraft buts its truly turning into a work of art. Most parts are proof of concept and were very happy that Chip has allowed us to really dig deep and develop some cool stuff for formulas. We appreciate Mr. Mapoles support in our company and look forward to working with him more in the future.

Finishing up wing attach brackets lead to the closing of the second wing. Something that seems like it’s taken forever. Both wings for the Pitts biplane are closed as of today. Very little work is left to finish them now. Here are a few pics of the wing attach brackets for the upper wing. With over 20 hours of fab/welding involved in just these brackets I’m happy to say they’re done, turned out magnificent and we’re finally moving on to the engine mount. Got the first horizontal popped out of the mold. Three more are in line. First part is horizontal only, weighs just over 8 pounds. Surface finish is pretty flawless. Very happy with the initial run on this part.

Looking into buying carbon hinges for Jeff’s biplane wing, he brought up the idea to just make our own. Clever guy Jeff is, we now have another part we will be adding to our production items. This is the first prototype hinge made. It turned out fantastic. A bit of tweaking on the mold and the machining program for the notches but all in all a successful first attempt.

Well, Reno is done and over. A very successful year to say the least. Race 79 and Race 81 both flew flawless with Race 81 being flown from its home in Chico CA to Stead NV for racing then back home after the races. With plenty of time in the pits between races this year we were able to discuss some important parts of racing, speed, and where to find more. Race 81 has so far lived up to its name of “Sleeper”. There is very little work we will be doing to it before the races next year. A bit more engine tuning and a set of our slabwing wing tips should wrap it up. Race 79 has been on the back burner the last few years with all the overseas racing and other aircraft builds and unfortunately just hasn’t seen the attention it deserves. This year it will under go some good treatment. A new carbon tail group is in the works. We will be developing a new form (to us) of construction. Molded, hollow flight surfaces should greatly reduce the weight of the entire empennage. All new carbon pushrods will be appropriately sized and installed reducing the overall weight that much more. Ailerons will follow, reducing the weight of the aileron will allow us to reduce the mass balance weight which will reduce the overall aileron weight which continues to take us in the right direction. Last on the list for firewall back modifications will be a complete strip and reprofile of the wing back to the original airfoil shape. It’s a wood wing that was built in the 70’s so over the years the wing, mainly the airfoil has deformed enough to the point we have seen a loss of significant loss in performance since profiling it the first year we took it to Reno. Firewall forward will be a new cooling system, carb intake system and some tweaks to the engine so we can push it harder next year then we ever have. In the on going quest for speed, we come to the last topic. As we extract every last bit performance out of the Shoe String this year for 2019, 2020 is coming soon..........
