Giving a shout out to one of our Firefighter Nick Sottile for climbing the stairs at Chimney Rock State Park! Climbing the stairs at the park 4 times is a little under the 2071 steps that the firefighters had to climb at the World Trade Center 25 years ago today. Nick we thank you for your dedication and desire to honor those lost on 9/11.

Today, we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever impacted, and the first responders who answered the call with extraordinary courage and selflessness. ❤️

In honor of the first responders who serve and protect our communities every day, all first responders are invited to join us today for a free appetizer of their choice at RiverWatch Bar & Grill and a free latte of their choice at RiverWatch Coffeehouse — no purchase necessary.

We’ll also have live music with Danny Grayshock from 5–8 PM.

To our first responders, past and present, thank you for your service, courage, and dedication to our communities.

9/11 DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

This Friday, we invite you to join us at Chimney Rock Smokehouse as we remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call, and support the first responders who continue to serve our community.

🚒 First Responders Eat on Us
All first responders will receive a complimentary pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwich and side as our small way of saying thank you for your service.

🚒 Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department | 4 PM
The crew and trucks will be at the Smokehouse. Bring the family, meet our local firefighters, check out the trucks, and grab some great photos!

🎸 Live Music with Rod Sphere | 5–8 PM

🥾 Fill the Boot Fundraiser
We’ll be raising money throughout the evening for the Chimney Rock VFD, and a portion of our total sales for the day will also be donated directly to the department.

Come eat some BBQ, enjoy the music, support our local firefighters, and spend the evening with the community.

Increased Risk of Wildfire Due to Elevated Fire Danger -- Thursday, June 18, 2026

The National Weather Service has issued fire danger statements for central and eastern North Carolina. What does increased fire danger mean for you today?

🎯 Fires can start from the smallest spark.
🎯 Dry conditions and wind increase fire spread.
🎯 Everyday activities carry more risk right now.

Avoid burning, and be cautious with anything that could cause a spark. Properly dispose of smoking materials such as ci******es. Be extremely careful with machinery and farm equipment when working outdoors.

Is the statewide burn ban still in effect?

Yes. Yes it is. All open burning is prohibited intil further notice.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.
