Humans are still part of the hiring process!!!

In 2025, 69% of organizations used AI in their hiring processes. The majority of the AI use has been with resume screening, creating interview questions, and candidate assessments. But the hiring process is more than these items.

For example, several AI job seeking tools claim
that they can find you a new job in a week or two. But is this really true? Probably not because the unemployment rate has increased, and not decreased. And if you are selected for an interview, is it really for a job that meets your wholistic needs? Another major factor in the hiring process that these AI processes do not prepare you for is the interview! Some organizations will us AI for the first phase of their interview process. There is still time to get your 2025 goals accomplished!

We are quickly approaching the end of 2025, so it is important to focus on completing your personal and professional goals. It isn’t too late to complete the things that you wanted to achieve. You don’t need to give up and push these goals to 2026.

Major accomplishments can still happen in a short amount of time. Imagine you are watching a football game and it is the 4th quarter, and your team is behind by one touchdown. Does the team throw their hands up and say, “this game is over”? Or do they refocus their energy and effort towards winning the game? I am sure that you cheered loudly when the team turns it around and wins the game in the remaining time!

It is time for you to cheer for yourself. You need to refocus your effort and do the steps needed for you to accomplish your goal. This might mean putting in some extra time and effort to complete it before the end of the year, but it can be done.

Even Leaders need to ask for help!

There is a myth that asking for help is a form of weakness. But the opposite is true! At some point in your life, you will need help with something. People often think that asking for help will bother other people, assuming that your request will feel like an inconvenience to them. But oftentimes, the opposite is true. People like to help others.

Remember the days before digital maps, and you needed help with directions. Did you drive around for hours looking for your destination, or did you ask someone for help with directions? 9 times out of 10, you pulled over and asked for directions from someone. Did this make you a bad driver? No, this made you an effective driver that knew how to get to your destination.

So why are you hesitant to ask for help in the workplace? Do you think that your requests for help will be held against you? They will not be, if you accept and use the help that is provided. Unfortunately, people do not always accept the help that is provided to them. They are not open to accept help provided because it is given in the way they expected.

Imagine that you asked someone for $5.00. The person that you asked said yes and handed you five $1.00 bills. But you expected a single $5.00 bill. Would you give the money back, and tell the person you don’t want it because it's not in the form of help you expected? Probably not. The same concept needs to be applied to the workplace. It is important that you accept the help as it is given to you, so people will be open to helping you in the future.

Emotional Intelligence is not an “optional” skill for great Leaders!

Have you ever gone somewhere to buy something or have a service performed and you are asked to take a number. No one asks for your name or the reason why you are there. You must wait until your number is called, and then you are asked the minimum amount of information. Hopefully you receive the service or product you wanted, and then you are rushed out of the door.

How was that experience for you? Did you feel like a valued customer, or just a number? If you felt that you were just a number, did you ever go back to that place? Or did you find a place that valued you and appreciated your business.

Now imagine you are at your job, and you feel like you are just a number. Over 50% of employees feel like they are easily replaceable in their jobs. Have you ever heard anyone say that they can’t be a Leader because they do not have a leadership title? Or they can’t be a Leader because they do not have people reporting to them? The definition of a Leader is “a person that leads”. Unfortunately, many people have equated being a Leader to having a specific title or a specific role. But true leadership is not limited to these things.

When you were a child, did you ever play games with a group of other kids. During these games, did one of the kids or you give instructions and tips to others so your team could win? Did anyone ever stop them and ask, “What is your title?” or “Who reports to you on this team”? Probably not. Instead, you followed the instructions because this person provided insight and guidance that was needed and useful. So why have we limited leadership so much as adults?

One reason is that it might be hard to share your insight and guidance in the workplace. You might not know the right thing to say, the right time, or the right audience to share your expertise.

I don't need any Leadership training..... I will learn as I go!

Do you ever learn how to ride a bike? If you did learn how to ride, did you just hop on your bike and take off? Probably not! You probably had to start off with training wheels so you could learn how to pedal, steer, and stop. After you got comfortable with those activities, your next step was removing the training wheels and having someone assist you. Then after lots of practice, falls, bumps and bruises, you were able to ride alone.

Learning how to be an amazing Leader is a similar process. You might start off with limited leadership duties and staff, and over time gain more responsibilities. But is this enough for you to become a successful Leader? One element that will help you become successful as a Leader is training and practice. When you learned how to ride your bike, did you just practice once? Probably not. You practiced often to learn how to ride in different paths and areas. The same practice is needed for leadership. You need to practice how to lead in different situations and scenarios.
