“I don’t have time to check.”

It only takes a few seconds to skip a safety step, but the consequences can last much longer.

When employees feel rushed, they may be more likely to skip inspections, overlook hazards, take shortcuts, or make decisions they normally wouldn’t. In fact, research cited in our latest blog post found that employees were 2.9 times more likely to slip when rushing compared with working at a normal pace.

Productivity matters. But getting the job done safely matters more.

Watch our short video, then read our latest blog to learn how time pressure and rushing can increase workplace safety risks, and what employers can do to help prevent it.

Did you know? Heat acclimatization is important for both indoor and outdoor workers exposed to hot conditions.

A key strategy is to gradually increase a worker’s time in the heat over 7 to 14 days, giving the body time to adjust. This is especially important for new workers and those returning after time away.

Whether the heat comes from working outdoors, in a warehouse, kitchen, or other hot indoor environment, a gradual approach can help reduce the risk of heat illness.

Did you know? A messy workplace can hide hazards in plain sight. Leaks, frayed cords, damaged tools, and missing safety equipment are much easier to spot when work areas are clean and organized.

Good housekeeping isn’t just about appearance, it’s an important part of workplace safety. A few minutes spent cleaning up can help prevent accidents before they happen.

- Keep walkways clear
- Put tools and materials away
- Clean up spills promptly
- Report damaged equipment

A heat wave is expected to hit Southern California this week. Now is the time to ensure your employees are prepared and protected from heat-related illnesses.

If your employees work outdoors:

- ☀️ Train supervisors and employees to recognize and respond to heat illness hazards
- 💧 Encourage frequent hydration by ensuring workers drink plenty of water throughout their shift
- 🌳 Provide regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
- 🧢 Promote sun protection by encouraging workers to wear light-colored clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunscreen

If your employees work indoors:

California employers are required to identify and correct unsafe heat conditions as part of their Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Taking proactive steps can help reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and maintain a safe workplace.
