Your refrigerator isn’t supposed to be completely silent.

Clicks, hums, and the occasional pop can be totally normal.
But some sounds are worth paying attention to.

5 refrigerator noises you shouldn’t ignore:
🔊 Loud buzzing
A constant, unusually loud buzz can point to a fan, compressor, or electrical component working harder than it should.

🪛 Rattling
Sometimes it’s just a loose drain pan. Other times, it can come from the condenser fan or compressor area.

🌪️ Grinding or scraping
This often means a fan blade is hitting ice or another component, and ignoring it may turn a small problem into a bigger one.

💥 Repeated clicking
An occasional click is normal. Clicking every few seconds while the refrigerator struggles to start is not.

😬 High-pitched squealing

🔥 5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Your Oven

Your oven may look simple, but diagnosing it isn’t always as obvious as “the heating element is bad.”

1. An oven can heat up and still be broken.
If the temperature is 25–50°F off, the problem may be a temperature sensor, thermostat, heating element, or control board.

2. Gas ovens often have ignition problems, not gas problems.
A weak igniter may still glow, but it might not get hot enough to open the gas valve properly.

3. The self-clean cycle is one of the toughest things your oven does.
Temperatures can get extremely high, putting extra stress on door locks, wiring, sensors, and electronic controls.

4. Uneven cooking doesn’t always mean you need a new oven.
A failed convection fan, heating element, sensor, or even incorrect temperature calibration can cause one side of your food to cook faster than the other.

5. A completely dead oven may have a surprisingly small problem.
Sometimes the issue is a thermal fuse or safety component rather than an expensive control board.

Things We Wish Customers Would Stop Doing to Their Appliances

From the people who actually repair them:
- Stop using half a bottle of detergent for one load. More soap does not mean cleaner clothes.
- Stop pushing your refrigerator completely against the wall. It needs airflow too.
- Stop running the oven self-clean cycle every other week. That extreme heat is rough on components.

And please stop ignoring that new grinding, clicking, or buzzing noise because “it still works.”
Yes, it still works. For now.

A little less abuse = a lot fewer repair calls.

Newer doesn’t always mean more reliable.

Modern appliances are quieter, smarter, and more energy efficient, but they’re also much more complicated. What used to be a fairly simple system can now include multiple control boards, sensors, fans, electronic valves, and other components.

That means one small failure can sometimes affect the entire appliance. Older appliances were often simpler to diagnose and repair, while newer models may cost more to fix when something goes wrong. So if your 10 or 15 year old refrigerator, washer, or dryer is still working well, replacing it just because it’s “old” isn’t always the best decision.
