I believe rodent prevention is not just about setting a trap after you see a mouse.
The better approach is to look at why rodents are getting close to the home in the first place.
When I inspect a property in South Eastern Idaho, I check garage door seals, foundation gaps, crawl space doors, vents, utility openings, sheds, and storage areas.

I always tell homeowners that rodents do not need much to start moving closer to a house.

A little warmth, a food source, and a quiet place to hide can be enough.

I always remind homeowners that spiders are usually not showing up around a home for no reason.

They tend to stay where they can find insects, cover, and quiet spaces that do not get disturbed very often.

I always recommend that homeowners in South Eastern Idaho take a look around the outside of the house for spider activity in September before more of it starts moving indoors.

At first, it may not seem like much.

When I check a home for spiders, I pay attention to the places where insects gather, where spiders can stay hidden, and where they may be getting closer to doors, windows, or garage spaces.

I start seeing more spider calls around South Eastern Idaho in August, especially around porches, garages, windows, and basement areas.

Most of the time, it starts with webs.

A few around the porch light. Some in the corners of the garage. Maybe one or two spiders showing up inside the house.

That is usually when homeowners start wondering if there is more activity going on than they realized.
