I am grateful to announce that I am now a "Doctoral Candidate" at the Doctor of Law and Policy Program, Northeastern University.
For the next ~10 months, I will complete my dissertation on Water Security.
This is a huge milestone because I had a rough start, was often bullied, and faced complex challenges post-medical retirement:
1) Adverse Childhood Experiences Score of 9-of-10 by age 12.
2) Upbringing under martial law. No electricity. No reliable running water.
3) Immigrant. High school dropout. GED. No future. Part time jobs.
4) Enlisted with a Green Card. Earned my U.S. Citizenship in the Army.
5) Failed the Special Forces Selection Course 2X. Divorced in my mid-20s.
6) Medical retirement. Complex PTS. Multiple joint replacements. Angry. Bitter.
7) Did not listen to music for ~4 years. Kicked out of service dog training.
Despite all of that, I worked my a** off, to add meaning to my life:
8) Earned the Arabic Linguist certification and dismantled terrorist networks.
9) Sole Green Beret with a professional proficiency rating in Arabic & Tagalog.
10) With one GI Bill, earned two graduate degrees (MBA and MPPA).
11) Earned a scholarship in competitive intelligence - and found my intellect.
12) Earned the Master of Competitive Intelligence™ Certification.
13) Earned two awards during two competitive intelligence analytical contests.
14) Won high-level speech competitions - and found my voice.
15) Began studying Hebrew and Judaism - and found my soul.
16) Celebrated 25 years married with Cecile - and found my soulmate.
17) Became humble, grateful, aware, joyful, helpful - and found my purpose.
18) The best part? I did not become like the bullies who tormented me.
Thank you, US Army for the amazing opportunities. You turned a shy, bullied kid into a capable warrior and a caring leader. Thank you U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for helping me realize my academic dreams.
