When you think of "Autumn", what comes to mind?

Pumpkin spice lattes, rainy days, sweater season, reading a book cozy by the fire?

How about making it your mission this season to cultivate a relationship with a leader you respect?

Fall is the perfect time to expand your network, as connection is so important for everyone during this season!

Here are a few reasons why you need a mentor:

Expand your knowledge:

Mentors are valuable sources of knowledge. Whether you're starting a business, going back to college or changing careers, mentors have experienced similar milestones. Choose mentors who will give you the best insight into your current phase of life or career level. Because they have already been through it, they'll provide advice on issues like how to save money, reduce stress and be more efficient, for example, and be able to connect their experiences with your own.

Trusted ally:

The relationship between a mentor and a mentee must be built upon trust, honesty and transparency. When you need someone you can trust, having a mentor as an objective third party is a great resource. Mentors work to earn your trust in various ways, including showing up to appointments on time, listening to your stories and keeping your information confidential.

Constructive criticism:

Friends and family members may hesitate to provide the type of feedback you need to make a change in your personal or professional life. Mentors offer constructive criticism designed to strengthen areas of your life that need improvement. Without this insight, personal growth may take longer to achieve. Encourage mentors to tell you how you may improve your strategy to better reach your goals.

Okay, that all sounds great, right?
..Well, how do you develop a mentor relationship?

That's why we created Founders Collab!

Did you that there are mentors waiting to support you within the platform?

🍂 How is your Fall going thus far? 🍂

As an entrepreneur, we tend to overwork ourselves sometimes. Consider this an invitation to create a work/life balance plan for this Autumn season.

10 Questions to ask your cofounder (or team members):

Cofounding a startup with another is much akin to entering a relationship. It’s far better to begin with all the cards on the table, rather than find out certain traits or potential areas of friction, later down the line.

Before entering a cofounder-ship with one another, take your time! Would you rush into a marriage? (we sure hope not!) You will be spending just as much time (if not more) with this person than many other individuals in your life as you begin an organization together. Best not to rush anything to see if you are a good fit.

Here are some questions to either communicate to one another whether it’s over coffee, or over an email:

1- Why do you want to start a company? (It's important they answer why they want to start a company right now.)

2- What is the expected time commitment now, in six months, two years, etc.?

3- Is there a part of our plan that we are unwilling to change (i.e. the product being built, the market being addressed or some other aspect of the company)?

4- What are our personal cash needs in the short term?

5- Are we both going unpaid and when would (we like this to) this change?

6- Where do we want the business to be located? Are you open to relocating?

7- What is the ideal culture you would like in the company?

8- Define your current responsibilities & ideal future responsibilities within the company:

9-What are the areas you know you’re not particularly good at? Where would you like support?

10-What’s the equity split and why? Are we both comfortable with the reasoning behind this decision?

Any other questions we didn't mention that you feel are essential to know about your cofounder/team member?

Sure, there are "better" times to get going, but the key is, to start!

The "LinkedIn" of startups: Founders Collab!

Founders Collab is a newly launched platform that aims to connect startup founders with mentors and advisers.

“People want to start new businesses, but there’s barriers,” he said. “If we can come together and figure some of those issues out, and we move the needle even from a 95% failure rate to 94%, that impacts legacies and families for generations.” Eliot Bennie (Founder)
