“In April, I lost my father to cancer. During the last 4 months of his life he was under the care of a local hospital. In September, I started receiving bills which totaled $2,850 for the balance of his care not paid for by his Medicare or secondary insurance carrier. I felt sure I couldn't be liable so I immediately called the hospital. In all, I ended up calling the hospital six different times and each time I was told I WAS responsible for the bills. I requested they show me my signature on anything agreeing to cover unpaid balances, I requested copies of bills sent to his insurance carriers, and what was paid on his behalf. I never received any of it. After 14 months of dealing with this, I received a knock on my door and was handed a certified letter from the hospital demanding payment. I'd had it and called LegalShield first thing the next morning. The attorney who called me back listened to everything and took it from there -- HE contacted the hospital and requested the same items I'd requested previously (to no avail). One WEEK later I got a call from the hospital’s accounting department; the woman I spoke with apologized for the hassle, explained they made an error and said I should never have been billed... then apologized for the additional stress this last year due to their oversight. Numerous calls, letters and 14 months of stress trying to get it done on my own and nothing, followed by one call to LegalShield, one letter and one week to have it resolved. Thank you. This is a service everyone should have because situations like these are not uncommon.”
