Women's health matters. Healthy women, healthy community.

"Melinda French Gates has pledged $215 million to improve women's health globally, supporting contraception, maternal care, mental health, and menopause research. Over the past two years, she has invested more than $600 million in women's health. This latest commitment is part of her broader $1 billion effort to advance women's power, health, and opportunity.

As Gates recently said, 'Women's health is fundamental.' When women have access to the care, resources, and research they need, the benefits extend far beyond individual health outcomes. Families, communities, and economies are stronger." -- The Female Quotient

Kudos to Melinda French Gates for her massive investments in advancing women's healthcare worldwide!

Political framing is a process of presenting an issue, event, or candidate in a specific way to shape public perception and influence opinions, and Congressman Rob Bresnahan Jr. has shared a fine example.

One goal of political framing is to simplify complex information. Another goal might be to mislead or confuse the reader.

For example, The House passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, which includes Rep. Bresnahan's bipartisan Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act, designed to connect local farmers with community food programs and expand access to healthy food.

However, the act in effect replaces the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA), which was eliminated in early 2025 by the current administration.

The LFPA created by the Biden administration in 2021, authorized $900 million worth of locally raised healthy foods for anti-hunger organizations before being terminated.

The cancellation of the LFPA hit us hard in northeast PA, impacting both food banks and local farms.

The most direct regional impact was on the CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, which serves Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming counties. The food bank stood to lose more than $764,000 from the LFPA cancellation.

Local farmers were also impacted. For example, at Brace's Orchard in Dallas, Luzerne County, 10% of revenue, roughly 55,000 pounds of food, came through LFPA the previous year.

These cuts came along with other food assistance reductions, including cuts to SNAP benefits, WIC, and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, thanks to Congressman Rob Bresnahan Jr.'s vote for the OBBBA.

How costly it is to eliminate a federal program that was working and then later reinstate the program under a new name?

Our tax dollars at work.

A bipartisan farm bill package moving through Congress could mean more fresh food on the tables of families in need, while also helping Pennsylvania farmers fac
