We’re taught to make business decisions based on data, logic, and strategy—and yes, those matter. 📊

I’ve been there—staring at spreadsheets, weighing the pros and cons, trying to force a decision that just didn’t feel right. And every time I ignored that gut feeling? It cost me. 💸

The truth is, the most successful business moves happen when intuition and data work together. Your intuition picks up on things data can’t—energy, alignment, and unseen opportunities.

Sounds pretty harsh, no? 😬 “DIE as a team.” Yes, it does, and yes, it is. 💥 However, it’s a very effective team-building strategy. 🤝

I’m grateful we don’t have to use this tactic often, but when we do, it’s always effective. 💯

🔍 How does this work?

Well, a team member screws up a job. 😳 The job needs to be sorted.* This usually means double-digit thousands of parts. 🛠️ We believe in cleaning up your own mess, but we would never move forward if the guilty team member was the only one sorting.

🚨 The entire team stops what they’re doing, gathers around makeshift tables, and sorts parts. The process is the same every time:

1️⃣ Everyone complains while setting up.
2️⃣ Sorting starts, and everyone complains—loudly—especially ribbing the guilty team member. 😅
3️⃣ Sorting continues, and the grumbling slowly turns into jokes. 😂
4️⃣ Sorting completes with everyone—literally everyone—laughing, and we often end the day with some well-deserved b**r. 🍻

Embrace MFG DAY! 🏭

Honestly, it can be a pain in the butt 😅 AND you have to think about the future. The future pipeline of labor—both on and off the plant floor! 🔧👷‍♀️👷‍♂️
I used to avoid it. No time for that! 🕒 Let’s be real, a portion of the shop loses a day of production. ⚙️

However… after my move to MS, I realized industry wasn’t even recognized as a viable career path here. 😮 I knew I had to step up and get the community involved.

🔑 People need to know what’s possible in manufacturing. Many don’t even realize manufacturers need marketing or sales! 🤯 I’ve talked to educators and career coaches who simply had no idea.

Tips:
✔️ Make it fun for you and your team! 🎉
✔️ Involve as many team members as possible—you’re losing the day anyway! 👥
✔️ Create hands-on activities for the kids! 👶✂️ For example, have them make paper airplanes ✈️ without a pattern, then with one—it's an engaging way to teach quality!
✔️ Giveaways are a hit! 🎁 Child’s safety glasses in your company colors = 💡
✔️ Have lunch for your tour leaders and a debrief session to improve for next year! 🍽️📝

Yes, it’s a lot of work. Yes, you lose a day of production. But YES, you’re planting seeds for the future of manufacturing! 🌱👨‍🔧👩‍🔧

🌞 MANDATORY FUN! 🎉

Every year we hold a summer luncheon 🍽️ and bags/corn hole tournament 🎯 for our amazing team members.

This year we opted for delicious pork and beef rib BBQ 🍖🔥! I love our creative grill — who knew you could make one from one of your bins? 🤯😂

I had custom, competition-quality boards made 🎨🏆, and while Hurricane Helene 🌧️ brought in the rain, she couldn't dampen the fierce competition! 💪 The winning team gets a $50 cash prize 💵🎉!

One of the leads asked if it was ok for a team member to leave at noon instead of getting paid to hang out for 2-1/2 hrs... I said NO! 😆 This is MANDATORY FUN! 💼🎉

I always get one new team member who wants to opt out, but I never let them because I know that once they join in, they’ll have a blast! 😎🎉

Dealing with difficult employees? 😅 You know the type—bright, talented, and engaged but a total PITA! They challenge every suggestion and decision and seem to be in everyone’s business. 🤯

Well, before I owned my business, I was that employee—constantly bored, always questioning, and sticking my nose where it didn’t belong. 😏

Instead of just dealing with it, let’s channel that energy into something productive. 💪

The solution? ASK them—pick their brains! 🧠

When they challenge a decision, ask: What would you do instead? How would you implement it? 🤔
When they question a suggestion, ask: What could go wrong? What could be better? 🔍

Get their minds working in a positive direction instead of getting frustrated with them. 🌟

Remember, they’re engaged because they care about the company! 🚀

WHAT’S YOUR NAME? 🤔👤

As a C-suite person… it is my opinion that knowing your employee’s names is critical to culture. 🌟

This was reinforced when I approached a relatively new employee 👨 to advise him of a meeting 📆 that I knew he would miss because he was moved to a different working location. I walked up to him and said, “Hi Chris,” 👋 and I could not finish my sentence because he looked so shocked that I had to ask him if he was OK. He said, “yes - I am just shocked that you know my name.” 😲

Now - he was at his previous job for a decade 🔟 …. it was a small business….. the owner did not know his name. Or at least the owner never called him by his name.

He was visibly shocked and honored at the same time.

Psychologically - what are the benefits of using someone’s name❓❓

✔ Creates culture
✔ Solidifies relationships with your employees
✔ Creates respect
✔ Creates a sense of belonging
✔ People will remember that you used their name and how that made them feel
✔ Acknowledges a person’s worth
