👥 Leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about creating space for others to contribute to the solution.

I recently had the opportunity to celebrate a powerful breakthrough with a long-term coaching client. After over a year of intentional leadership development, he shared how a team meeting didn’t go as planned. What was meant to be a collaborative brainstorming session turned into a venting session—dominated by one voice and disrupted by an unexpected dynamic: the presence of the CEO.

Frustrated and discouraged, he nearly wrote off the entire experience. But instead of walking away, he leaned in.

He scheduled 1:1 conversations with each team member—creating the space the original meeting lacked. What he discovered? Most of his team was aligned and receptive. Miscommunication and assumptions had clouded the view. Through those conversations, clarity emerged, expectations were reset, and momentum returned.

And the result? His follow-up communication to the team not only clarified next steps but demonstrated maturity, humility, and leadership. He was recognized by both his CEO and HR leadership for navigating the situation with grace and growth.

June 19, 1865 marks the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

This day is a reminder of our resilience, our progress, and the work that still lies ahead.

Yesterday, Airlea Williams, LCSW, PMH-C and I had the privilege of speaking at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library’s Staff Institute Day, where we explored the importance of mental health awareness in the workplace. Together, we unpacked key strategies for creating supportive, inclusive environments that prioritize mental well-being.
