John B Edwards author of “Sunlight over the Marshes” has just released his second novel, “Darkness under the Oaks.”
The story is set in Savannah and Statesboro during the late 70’s. Darkness under the Oaks is a tour de force thriller that combines an intricately, meticulously composed plot with a vital sense of placemaking. The book accents law enforcement, organized crime, Southern culture, and Christian doctrine. The original combination makes for a fulfilling, enriching, and delightfully unexpected read.
Perhaps most strikingly, the novel reflects a deep reverence for and observation of the society, customs, architecture, and landscapes of Southeast Georgia. This imbues the writing with a textured, poignant sense of place that touches every aspect of the storytelling.
Murder, mafia, mystery, and romance take a fast-paced journey through the pages to a suspenseful and unexpected destination at the end. In many ways, Darkness under the Oaks is several novels masterfully woven into one, yet despite its narrative complexity, the book reads as coherent, linear, and unfettered.
