We have ran this sale for years as a family, and have come to think of the sale patrons as friends and family. So while we are trying to make some from the sale, we try to keep the commission and entry fee manageable for all of you. This requires keeping the costs under control. We have done this by helping out young aspiring auctioneers 'get some mic time', local kids earn some cash, etc.
We understand mistakes happen, such as picking up the wrong cage, or an incorrect count on the birds in the cage. We have implemented new policies through the years to deal with things while keeping staff costs in mind.
But yesterday someone collected the proceeds from a lot that was not theirs, nor did they have authority to do so.
I am at fault for not requiring confirmation of identity, as this was a new patron to the sale. But we thought procedures were in place to eliminate such issues.
