It is with great pleasure that I announce the following - As of June 2023 Homeland Security Service has sold a majority of its contracts to a local independent security company (more details to be announced soon). In addition, our largest contract was taken over by a retired Kansas City Police Sergeant. After 12 years of service to this community providing security services I can say it is now time to retire from the security business and allow others to take the helm. This could not have been accomplished without great employees, a great community and dedicate individuals that are willing to take over and continue to create success while providing a much need service.

Respectfully,

Shane ORoark
Owner

SCAM OF THE WEEK FROM KCPD:
Fraudulent Funds Transfers

Organizations often use email to send their employees invoices that they need to pay. Now, cybercriminals are taking advantage of this process by using fraudulent funds transfer (FFT) scams. In FFT scams, cybercriminals try to manipulate you into transferring your organization’s funds to their bank accounts.

To start an FFT scam, cybercriminals use social engineering to steal an email account from your organization. Then, they use this account to send you an email pretending to be an executive from your organization. This email lists bank account information and states that you need to send a payment to the bank account as soon as possible. If you send this payment, you won’t be paying an important invoice for your organization. Instead, you’ll be sending your organization’s money directly to cybercriminals.

Follow the tips below to stay safe from similar scams:

Always think before you click! Cybercriminals can use fake invoices to alarm you and trick you into clicking impulsively.
Never send money to a bank account provided in an email. Instead, navigate to the organization’s official website to submit a secure payment.
To verify the legitimacy of an invoice, reach out to the person who allegedly sent the email by phone or in person.

SCAM OF THE WEEK FROM KCPD:
Real page, Fake Facebook Support

pages are typically used by organizations and public figures to connect with their community. Anyone can make a page, even cybercriminals. Using social media, cybercriminals spoof brands and organizations to trick people into trusting them. In this recent scam, cybercriminals use real pages to impersonate Facebook itself.

The scam starts with a fake email that looks like it’s from Facebook. The email states that your account has been deactivated and will be deleted in 48 hours unless you click a link. If you click the link, you’re taken to a real Facebook post from a page named “Page Support” that uses the Facebook logo. The post directs you to click another suspicious link that takes you to a fake login page. If you enter your login credentials, you’ll give cybercriminals access to your Facebook profile and the ability to scam your friends and family.

Don’t be fooled! Follow the tips below to stay safe from similar scams:

Watch out for a sense of urgency in emails. Phishing attacks rely on impulsive actions, so always think before you click.
Remember that this type of attack isn’t exclusive to Facebook. Cybercriminals could use this technique on any other social media platform.
If you receive an urgent notification, verify that it's legitimate. Navigate directly to the organization's website or official app to view details.
