🦇 BAT SEASON IS COMING, FLORIDA! 🦇

Bats are an important part of Florida’s ecosystem — our state is home to 13 native bat species, and they help control insects every night. But when bats decide your attic, roofline, or walls make a good home, that can become a problem. 😬🏠

👀 Some signs you may have bats:
• Soft fluttering or scratching sounds in your walls or ceiling
• Bat droppings (guano) around entry points, attics, or windows
• Bats repeatedly entering or leaving the same area around your home

⚠️ Bat droppings can also create health concerns, including exposure to histoplasmosis, so it’s best not to disturb or clean up large amounts yourself. (FWC)

📅 IMPORTANT FLORIDA BAT DATES:

Florida’s bat maternity season runs April 16 – August 14. During this time, bats may be raising flightless pups, so excluding them can trap babies inside the structure and is illegal without the proper permit.

✅ Bat exclusion season: August 15 – April 15

That’s when properly performed exclusion work can be done without a permit. Exclusion uses one-way devices that allow bats to leave but prevent them from getting back inside. (FWC)

We rescued this little squirrel today and got him safely into the care of a wildlife rehabber. Wildlife calls like this are only a small part of what we do, but we’re always willing to help when an animal needs it. 🐿️🌿

Today’s mission: protect the homes and protect the wildlife! 🐿️ Derrick discovered three newborn squirrel babies inside a bathroom vent using our inspection camera, which lets us safely inspect hard-to-reach areas. The babies were humanely reunited with their mother the proper way, and we sealed the vent to prevent re-entry. We also sealed the neighboring home’s entry point to stop the issue before it started.
