Today we wrapped up another week with the Big Sandy team exploring how core values redirect behavior, the stages of change, and whether influence is truly sustainable.

One of the themes that kept resurfacing was that behavior is rarely the whole story. What we see on the surface is often just an extension of deeper attitudes, beliefs, experiences, and values. If we want lasting change, we have to understand what is driving the behavior, not just react to the behavior itself.

Thank you again to the Big Sandy team for bringing me back for a third year. What started as a training opportunity has grown into meaningful relationships, great conversations, and a community I genuinely look forward to seeing each year.

I truly feel like part of the Big Sandy family. ❤️

People don’t change because we tell them to.

They change when they discover their own reasons.

Day 1 is done! 👏

Today in Kentucky, we spent the day exploring perspective-taking, unpacking the difference between sympathy and empathy, and practicing communication techniques that influence behavior and support change.

Most importantly, we kept it real.

We talked about the challenges professionals face every day, the resistance we encounter, and the reality that meaningful change rarely happens because we have the perfect answer. It happens when people feel heard, understood, and respected.

Thankful for the engagement, the honesty, and the willingness of this group to lean into some important conversations.

Thankful to be back in Kentucky for a third year!

Today, we'll spend time exploring the C.A.P.E. framework and some of the challenges that come with helping people navigate change. We'll talk about why resistance isn't always resistance, how ambivalence influences behavior, and practical communication strategies that encourage new ideas, ownership, and forward movement.

Whether you're working in workforce development, community services, education, or leadership, the reality is the same: meaningful change rarely happens because someone was told what to do. It happens when people feel heard, understood, and empowered to take the next step.

A special thank you to Cody and Dan for inviting me back again this year. I appreciate the opportunity and the continued partnership.

Looking forward to a day of learning, discussion, and growth with a group of professionals committed to making a difference in the lives of others.

The keynote focused on the conversations we have with others and ourselves.

The workshop focused on advocacy.

Today, we explored how foster parents can use Ethos, Logos, and Pathos to strengthen their message when advocating for children and families.

Because being heard is often the first step toward creating change.

In just one hour, I’ll take the stage as the keynote speaker for the Florida FAPA Conference.

As someone whose life has been shaped both personally and professionally by the foster care system, this moment is incredibly meaningful.

A special thank you to Laurallyn Segur and Michelle for their leadership in bringing this conference together.

And thank you to Trish Allen, Lori Ann Chapman, and the entire TLC team for advocating for me to be here today. Your support means more than you know.

Today is the day to wear our C.A.P.E. 🦸

But the truth is, Florida’s most vulnerable children don’t need one hero.

They need a system that works together.

Today, that village is in one room. 🤝

And I have the privilege of serving as the keynote speaker at Florida FAPA. ❤️

Wish me luck!
