Minor Accident? If It’s Safe, Clear the Road 🚗💥🚙
We see this all the time: two vehicles are involved in a minor accident, both vehicles are still drivable, nobody appears seriously injured — but both drivers remain stopped in the travel lane waiting for law enforcement.
That can turn a minor accident into a much more dangerous situation.
If you’re involved in a crash, your safety comes first. Check yourself and your passengers for injuries. If the vehicles can be safely moved and there are no serious injuries requiring you to remain where you are, move to a safe location out of the flow of traffic.
Before moving, if it’s safe to do so, take a few quick photos or video showing the vehicles, damage, license plates, and surrounding area. Then pull into a nearby parking lot, shoulder, side street, or another safe location and exchange information while waiting for law enforcement if needed.
Don’t risk a second accident just to preserve the exact position of the first one. Standing or sitting in an active traffic lane exposes you, your passengers, other motorists, police officers, firefighters, and tow-truck operators to unnecessary danger.
⚠️ For serious crashes, injuries, disabled vehicles, hazardous conditions, or situations where moving would be unsafe, call 911 and follow the dispatcher’s instructions.
A minor accident is stressful. Stay calm, document what happened, and most importantly — get yourself out of harm’s way when it is safe to do so.
