In 2005, I consciously and strategically decided that being a corporate employee, with all of its benefits and perks, limited my ability to serve as broadly as I was equipped and called to do. I had a three-year plan that would take me through 2008.

The 2008 economic downturn was reportedly the worst since the Great Depression, with gross domestic product down, unemployment doubled, home prices that plummeted, failed banks, bailed banks, predatory lending boomeranged… yeah, it was a lot. How soon we forget.

In 2005, I had a three-year plan.

I also had a career that I’d never imagined. Some folks wondered why I would leave. Why would I take the risk?

Because I was called to and equipped for more.

I stopped spending frivolously and invested in myself and the business I formed in 2005. I was ready and uncomfortable, exhausted from working on a job and in my business for three transitional years. I was working on fumes and fueled by a mission and vision that are much more than me. It’s about leveraging and redirecting economic freedom, forging powerful alliances, advocating for humane societies, and unapologetically serving with excellence. It’s beyond asking you what you want to do. It is about helping you accelerate opportunities by making introductions, sharing resources, being a voice for you in rooms you are unable to immediately access.

Comfort and calling do not necessarily walk hand-in-hand... and that’s okay when you know you are ready to make the sacrifices (plural because there will be many).

Greetings, Eagles!

As we continue exploring ways to make operational, administrative, and creative tasks less cumbersome, I am sharing this graphic that was just shared with me. The lady who shared it said, “THIS is what you described in our exercise!”

Help augmentation systems help you by being specific and clear about your needs. Experiment! Work with it until you see better results. I am not an AI expert. I am a leader who knows how to describe desired outcomes, is an unbound thinker, and is willing to navigate uncomfortable spaces to achieve powerful outcomes.

Recognize that people will stay on the train with you for as long as they are willing, able and interested in riding. Consider it a gift when they get off at an unexpected stop, making room for the new passengers who will hop on somewhere else along the journey. Count it all joy when folks depart, sometimes without announcement.

Purging is good for the soul; it makes room for growth. And know this: being on the train and feeling lonely is a gift. Cherish it. Know that every ancestor’s DNA resides within you. God’s light is always ignited within you... always. And then, there’s you... amazing you. How perfect is that?
