My parents just left everything behind for the second time in their life. First it was Romania. Now, it’s Canada.
The first time, I was 2 years old. They left a broken system behind, their language, their careers, everyone they knew, for a shot at a better life. My mom went from dentist to lab technician overnight. My dad, a chief engineer, had to prove himself all over again.
For years, it worked. But somewhere along the way, the place they rebuilt everything for started slipping into the same patterns they thought they’d escaped.
So when they decided to leave again, this time for the US, I understood something I didn’t fully get as a kid. This wasn’t giving up. It was the same instinct that got us here in the first place.
Some people get one shot at reinventing themselves. My parents just proved you can do it as many times as it takes.
Follow me, I post about this all the time. 👇
