Check for inside faucets dripping - can cause mineral buildup, markings on the sink, tub and lavatory, where they drip.
As you leave for fall getaways and may be out of town - turn water supply lines off to all toilets
Have your Tank-Type Water Heater cleaned every year - calcium can build-up.
