Version has come to Travis’ Vineyard.
The last two years of drought has been hard on my vines but this year was such a relief with these spring rains.
With rain comes fungus and I had that as well.
A few days ago the grapes were green and today they are purple.
I will start taking sugar and acid readings next week and posting on my page.

Veraison is happening in Travis’ Vineyard.
As I go through the vineyard I am noticing the damage done by last year’s drought. It will probably take me a few years to get it back in shape. That’s what I get for not irrigating.
The grapes are tasting good but are very tart. I a couple of weeks I will start taking sugar and acid samples and posting the results at travisvineyard.com/Sugar.htm .

My vines at Travis’ Vineyard are still recovering from last year’s drought. I had some vines die out completely, some vines are coming up from the roots, some are having to regrow cordons and some are just fine but are growing fewer grape clusters. It will probably be a couple of years before they are back to normal.
The clusters I do have are filling in nicely. I expect to make a couple of tons this year. We are receiving ample rain. I must have sprayed at the just right time as I am seeing no fungus pressure. I just mowed for the first time this year and it is looking good. I will try to grow out enough vines to layer new plants to replace those that died.

We held a brag party at Travis’ Vineyard last Saturday and Kin Compton brought a bottle of Lenoir mixed with cherry that was absolutely delicious.
Meanwhile, Kevin Lange was in Austin County Texas Fair where he enter his Lenoir wine made from Travis’ Vineyard vintage 2021 in their wine show and won a gold medal.
Congratulations Kevin.

Because of the flood last week the grapes are flush with water which has lowered the sugar readings. Some grapes have burst. I went out in the vineyard today. I could not detect any wasp or bees in the vines and there is no smell of deterioration.
This year was not good for the grapes or the vines but was good for experience. I had pruned to three buds per spur and got a lot of clusters but small berries in the cluster. The heat and drought affected the grape and the vines. I have lost several vines. Next year I will fertilize in early spring and prune to two buds per spur. Hopefully we will have better weather.
Because of rising prices and labor I will probably raise my prices to 65 cents per pound. I still want to keep my price under wholesale.
I am planning to hold a brag party October 15 at 10:00 am at the vineyard for anyone who would like to bring their items that was made with grapes from Travis’ Vineyard and brag about it. I will provide homemade sourdough bread and a cheese tray. We can sample any jellies, wine or vinegar that is brought. I will try to hold a blind wine tasting. If you plane to drink please bring a designated driver. You may give away wine or trade it but please do not sell wine at the vineyard.
