When your identity has been CEO or Founder of your business for 20+ years and you have poured everything into the business, it is hard to start planning your exit. But after age 60, you are one health crisis away from being forced to let go. Or you may be feeling burned out like one of my clients. I am seasoned, and easing into elderhood like so many babyboomers. I have been helping small business owners grow their businesses as a strategist and 10X business coach for 40 years. Then I realized that there are thousands of small business owners who are looking to retire and many of their businesses are too small i.e. under $5 million in revenue for the big institutional organizations to be interested. And there are a lot of younger entrepreneurs who want to buy an existing and profitable business vs building something from scratch. And I have had a few clients who have come back to me after they built the business so I could help them get their business ready to sell i.e. get them out of the day-to-day, document their procedures, basically make the business run without them. And of course increase their revenue. All of these things have positioned me to offer Founder's Freedom Life Map.

But I know what my clients want to hear directly from the experts and ask all of their questions. So I have pulled together expert panels ... business brokers, CPAs, Lawyers all who specialize in helping owners sell their businesses. I heard a horrible story about a woman who built a profitable business and didn't know what to do when her kids didn't want to take over. Just because your kids don't want to take over, doesn't mean you have to close your doors in order to retire. You may have to do some work to make it run without you AND if you are willing, you can really sell the business for more than you think.

The truth is the multiples vary widely by industry, systems, and client concentration.

I have several fantasy retirement strategies. I am lucky, I have a life map and my husband and I are starting to look at what we want and need in our retirement life style so we can get a real plan as that time will be here before we know it.

What I know is that elders who have a plan for their retirement that motivates them to get up and shower and get dressed every day, supports them making a contribution and staying active life longer healthier happier more satisfying lives.
