šŸŽ‰ At Grants Plus, we’re proud to celebrate our dedicated team of professional grants consultants who bring years of experience in strategy and grant writing to help nonprofits secure the funding they need.

🌟 Today, we’re spotlighting Cari Catts, our Senior Advisor for Writing and Engagement Strategist, who’s been making an incredible impact at Grants Plus for 5 years!

In her role, Cari ensures high-quality grant writing across our team and coaches nonprofit leaders to successfully pursue funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources.

About Cari:
Before joining Grants Plus, Cari spent a decade in nonprofit development across a variety of sectors. She holds a BA in Theater, Music, International Studies, and French from -Wallace University. A proud Clevelander, she’s also lived in Columbus, Dallas (as an AmeriCorps VISTA), Aix-en-Provence, and Dublin. Cari on working at Grants Plus:

ā€œI love working with such a variety of nonprofit clients and knowing I play a small role in helping them fulfill their missions. I’m also grateful to be part of a team that truly supports each other—and the flexibility to work from home helps me balance my personal and professional life.ā€

Cari’s Tip for Grant Writers:
āœļø ā€œThere are so many! But above all: identify the key message or hook you want to communicate—and make sure everything you write ties back to that message.ā€

Thank you, Cari, for your passion, insight, and commitment to helping nonprofits thrive!

Today, we remember.

On Memorial Day, we pause to honor the service members who gave their lives in defense of our country.

Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we cherish.

To their families, and to all who have served—we are forever grateful. ā¤ļøšŸ¤šŸ’™

Fundraising feels tougher lately? You’re not imagining it.

The latest Fundraising Effectiveness Project report confirms what many nonprofit leaders are experiencing:

šŸ“‰ Donors down 8.5% year-over-year
šŸ“‰ Total dollars dropped 2.6% in 2023

This isn’t a post-pandemic blip—it’s a trend. Individual donor giving is softening, and new donor acquisition is harder than ever.

To stay sustainable, now’s the time to rebalance your funding mix.

That doesn’t just mean applying for more grants.
It means investing in deeper, more strategic institutional partnerships—the kind that build long-term resilience.

Every time a grant writer leaves, you lose more than just a resume.

You lose relationships, strategy, and momentum—and replacing them is costly and disruptive. With average tenures as low as 16 months, it’s a sector-wide problem.

Here are a few tips to keep your grant writers engaged and motivated:
āœ… Make grant writers feel seen.
āœ… Encourage work/life balance.
āœ… Invest in their growth.
āœ… Build a writing community.

Retention is the real solution. Don’t just hire great grant writers—keep them.

šŸŽ† Real change starts with people—and partners—who care.

Today, we’re proud to highlight the incredible work of Gateway Early Childhood Alliance in St. Louis, MO. Their mission to build a more equitable early childhood system ensures that all children have access to the high-quality care and education they deserve.

Grants Plus partnered with The Alliance to identify funders aligned with their mission. Through our collaboration, they now have a targeted list of prospective funders and a strategic plan to move forward with confidence in their fundraising efforts.

We’re honored to support organizations like The Alliance that are creating lasting change. Working alongside visionary nonprofit leaders is both a privilege and a responsibility we don’t take lightly.

With economic and political uncertainty on the rise, many fundraisers are asking, "Where do we go from here?"

To help grant-seekers navigate these challenging times, we offer additional insights and strategies to guide your next steps and position you for success.

āž”ļø Shore up funder relationships now - don't wait for your next proposal deadline.
āž”ļø Educate your board and leadership about the economic headwinds and the need to stay nimble.
āž”ļø Advocate. Tell your elected officials how your mission is being affected. If the Charitable Act would help your donors give more, say so.
āž”ļø Keep listening. As funding tightens, those who bring empathy, clarity, and strategic focus will rise above the noise.
