Yesterday’s Ukrainian cultural immersion PD for educators in Hilliard City Schools was amazing!

Many thanks to the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio and the Ukrainian Refugee School Impact grant for supporting this PD.

Thank you to Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS), Jewish Family Services, Grace Evangelical Church School, Today’s Church, Creme de la Creme, Euro Delicatessen, and most importantly, the Ukrainian tour guides and other Ukrainian consultants who put together the day!

“We did a Parent Teacher Home Visit with an 8th grade student whose family had immigrated from another country. The family’s experience in both 6th and 7th grade was that no one from the school had ever reached out to them…good, bad, or otherwise. The mom thought her son (who tends to be quiet) was invisible and she had begun to wonder if anyone cared about him.

She was very moved that we took the time to come visit and get to know them. She was grateful because she said it meant that her son and family were cared for. A relationship of trust began that day.”
