Your Ukrainian students and families may be on edge today and here’s why. It’s hard to plan for one’s future when you don’t know what country you’ll be living in. Screenshot from the USCIS site, as of yesterday. Link in the comments.

We get this question a lot in our trainings. This post does a great job in explaining.

Our team’s last stop in Maryland was Dorchester County Public Schools where we worked with local Hispanic/Latino leaders to put on a cultural immersion PD!

Each educator got 3 field trips to learn more about places important to their Hispanic & Latino students & families. This was followed by Mexican food for lunch, a panel discussion, debriefing, and brainstorming how to apply everything that was learned. 🙌

Many thanks to all the community partners involved:

✔️ Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center
✔️ For All Seasons Behavioral Health and RCC
✔️ Choptank Community Health System
✔️ St. Mary Refuge of Sinners
✔️ El Cabrito Mexican Grill-Cambridge
✔️ Mercado Latino
✔️ Génesis Food Market

We love bringing educators into the community!

Today Immigrant Connections was in Allegany County Public Schools (MD) working with school counselors, PPWs, School Community Coordinators, and more! For a district with such a small immigrant community, this group had a LOT of heart and all were super engaged in the learning!

Where is Immigrant Connections today? We just wrapped up a PLC meeting in Washington County Public Schools (MD) and are headed to Allegany County Public Schools to facilitate a PD tomorrow. Western Maryland is beautiful!

"The lesson I’d mistakenly taught that day was that acceptance in the United States can be measured by citizenship status and by distance from newly arrived immigrants; all I had to do was stand idly by."

Anti-immigrant rhetoric does not stop at a school's gates, even where many students are immigrants.
