The Captivated Frame Photography

The Captivated Frame Photography Custom portraits created at your home | Event Photography | Headshots My photographic style incorporates natural and additive light with subtle posing.

All photos are edited to produce clean, classic images independent of fads or ready-made filters. I am the mother to five who also happens to belong to three cats and two dogs. I understand the value of documenting one’s life and showing the loving bond between people and those they love, be they human or animal. Some people and animals get unduly stressed outside of their home environment while t

ravelling to a photo destination adds more stress for all. The Captivated Frame offers editorial photos taken at your home where all are comfortable and without unnecessary stressors. I believe that photos are not meant to exist solely in the digital realm. When children and others see themselves in photos you have hung in your house, they see that they are loved and valued, and you have the joy of remembering your loved ones every time you pass by the photo. I have taken the time to learn how to photograph and edit with the end goal being a printed image. I only use quality print labs accessible to professional photographers. FB messages are unreliable, so please call and leave me a message or text. :)

Over the last few months, Mateo has been working toward earning his real estate agent license and recently passed the required tests. Today begins his first day of work at a local office.
As a newly minted agent, he required a headshot for business cards and other related purposes. This is the image he selected.

Best of luck, Mateo!

A few weeks ago I was asked if I would consider doing family portraits at a private residence so the family could have updated photos with their animals rather than their having to load them up and head to an unfamiliar location some distance away. I'm going to call it Kismet because I had been considering doing just that sort of photography. I have animals of my own and I know just how important they are to their family.
(As I type, my cat is keeping me company next to the keyboard, and my dogs are at my feet.)

We decided to photograph on the family's front porch as it was the best location. I visited prior to the session on an overcast day to assess possibilities. The day of the session was full sun and it created some difficulty with dappled light on the porch. Fortunately we were able to block a sliver of it- just enough to give us a small area in which to work.
The S. family was great to work with and patient as I problem solved the unexpected dappled light issue. It's a great thing that I like to move fast, because fast was required with the pets who were very disinclined to sit still for even a moment!

It's been a minute since I've posted here, roughly five years.
Why the absence? Life presented a lot of twists and turns- some terrible, some pretty great.
During my absence, my family of seven moved about four times and experienced being without permanent housing for a short while. Our most recent move this spring was into our own home. It's a great feeling!
One of our moves was to Tennessee for my husband's employment. Our move to TN also opened the door for me to once again become a full-time college student and finally achieve my long-held goal of earning my Bachelor's degree. I dropped everything, including portraits, in pursuit of my degree. I am now the grateful holder of a B.A. in Communication, specifically Public Relations.
I've kept myself busy photographing events and working to create an image catalog for a local historic church.
Now, I have time once again for some portraits. :)

(This post would not be right without a photo, so here's where I spent many hours completing my degree.)

P.S. My website was infected with a trojan and was destroyed while I was in school. Reconstructing it will be a work in progress for a while.

This is exactly spot on. I third shot for a whole wedding season (about 15 weddings) to see if I liked weddings as well as to acquire the necessary skills before moving towards second shooting.

Often, potential clients totally underestimate the skills required to photograph a wedding well. It is far more complex than just aiming and pressing a button. Ten hour days are quite common and can feel like a marathon. A fun one, but a marathon none-the-less!

Each venue is totally different, the light can change drastically hour to hour, let alone from the ceremony site to the reception site. Only real life knowledge and experience as well as the right gear will help the photographer get the photos the bride and groom expect.

I shot my first wedding this year, and wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was. Based on that experience, here’s why you’re not ready to shoot a wedding.

The professional photographer's life is not spent primarily taking photos! Data management is a huge part of the equation in order to keep your memories safe. :) (And no, this isn't all of them!)

One thing I always try to do during family sessions is to take some images of just mom and dad. I want to celebrate that before they were "mom and dad" they were friends and lovers. Often one parent is in pictures with the children while the other is the one taking the photo. It is my firm belief that spouses deserve the gift of professional photos taken together as they represent the foundation of love that formed their family.
