Crossroads Coaching & Consulting

Crossroads Coaching & Consulting Finding the way forward on your Lifelong Journey of adoption. In June, 1992, I stepped off on the road not taken when I joined Adoption Network
Cleveland.

I work with adult adoptees who are feeling disconnected and alone and are ready to embrace acceptance and belonging. Two years later I spoke to my birth mother for the first time. With the
support and encouragement of fellow travelers, I created profound and loving
relationships with the rest of our family. In July 2010, I was finally able, using the
resources of (yes, it's true!) facebook, to

make loving contact with my birth father's
family. Over these 20+ years I have come to know that through the majic of
Coaching, I am a valuable contribution to the lives of adults and families affected by
adoption while living the adventure of my own Lifelong Journey.

Tuesday, September 10, will be the first of the Fall series ADOPTEE JOURNEYS (for adoptees only) at Adoption Network Cleveland. I am leading this first session and we are going to acknowledge and examine our RESILIENCE.
Dr. Brene' Brown says, "A social wound needs a social balm". Based on her research, you will learn the four elements of resilience that, when practiced, lead to empathy, connection and healing. You will take away a strategy for protecting connection - with ourselves and with the people you care about.
If you have attended in the past, you are already practicing resilience by showing up and sharing. This session will take it to a new level!
If you have never attended before, I hope you will accept this invitation to experience what it is like to be with a community of people who "get it". Go to adoptionnetwork.org to learn more, then call 216. 881-7511 to register.

As I became involved with one young woman, I learned how profoundly the child welfare system could fail its teenagers.

On Saturday I attended the funeral of Eric Sisson. His birth mother, Jeanne is my dear friend. I witnessed something that will forever give me strength and hope in the work of helping adults affected by adoption. Midway through the service, Jeanne, the birth mom and Jean, the adoptive mom rose and walked together to the podium and read scripture that had been chosen to reflect their response to their loss. It was clear that these two mothers had come together to love and support their son in his last days, and were standing together for each other as they mourned. Thanks to Jeanne and Jean for their touching, moving, and inspiring example of love and belonging! P.S. The final hymn was "Blest Be the Tie That Binds".

Just saw a post from my niece about a greeting card sent to her by her late "Granny", my birth mom, Margaret. One of the most powerful & memorable experiences with Margaret & greeting cards came early in our reunion. She called me back into her bedroom where she rummaged through a dresser drawer and pulled out a stack of cards. She said, "Over many, many years, thinking of you, I would pick up a card in the store and stick it away in this drawer. I never dreamed I would someday get to hand them to you, but here they are." There was the proof that indeed, she thought about me and loved me all those years we were separated. So, yes Danielle, something as seemingly insignificant as a card can be more valuable than gold.

Today, at the American Adoption Congress International Convention in Cleveland, I and many other invested parties watched with the founder of Adoption Network Cleveland, Betsie Norris, as the OH House of Representatives passed by a vote of 90-something to one to grant access to Original Birth Certificates for adopted adults born between Jan. 1994 and 1996. The celebration was JOYFUL. Hundreds of thousands of people will be impacted by this milestone once the OH Senate does it's part and the bill is signed by the governor!
