We provided all of the statues for the sculpture garden at Saint Anselm Church in Chesterland, Ohio.

These statues are made of fiberglass with a bronze finish. Fiberglass, or glass-reinforced polyester, is affordable and light (compared to bronze and marble) because it’s similar to plastic. Fiberglass statues in bronze, aluminum or white marble finishes are treated so that they can withstand the elements for many years.

“Francis, Francis, go and repair My house which, as you can see, is falling into ruins.” With those words, relayed in a vision inside a crumbling chapel, Christ compelled Francis of Assisi, the son of a wealthy merchant, to renounce his inheritance and to devote his life entirely to poverty and service.

In 2013, the Franciscan friars of Sacred Heart Church in Peoria, Illinois commissioned an original high-relief, wood-carved wall sculpture celebrating that pivotal moment in their founder’s life.

We worked with our partner Art Studio Demetz in Italy to recreate the scene, based loosely on medieval paintings of the event.

Mazzolini Artcraft worked with our partner Art Studio Demetz on custom, life-sized bronze sculptures of Jesus and St. Matthew for Stonehill College in Boston, Massachusetts. Together the statues depict “The Calling of St. Matthew,” the moment that Christ inspired the tax collector to follow Him.

Custom statues are individual works of art. For bronze statues, a full-sized clay model is used to create a wax mold that will melt away during casting. The “lost wax” method has changed little since ancient times. Bronze statues can be intricately detailed and lifelike, and are highly durable.

Mazzolini worked with our partner Art Studio Demetz of Italy on several original bronze statues honoring prominent Greeks and Greek Americans, most of them commissioned by the Foundation of Hellenism in America.
Statues include (1) Doroteo Teodoro, a.k.a. Theodoros Griego, the first Greek to reach America, in 1528 with a Spanish fleet. This statue stands in Clearwater Beach, Florida. (2)Sponge Diver Memorial, Tarpon Springs, Florida. The sponge divers’ story is told in this 1932 documentary.
(3) Pyrrhus of Epirus, Greek general and statesmen and cousin of Alexander the Great. This statue stands in Greece.
(4,5,6),Alexander the Great as a boy and his mother, Olympias. This statue now stands near Olympias’ birthplace, in the region of Epirus. The photo was taken at Art Studio Demetz.

Mazzolini Artcraft and our partner Art Studio Demetz of Italy completed an original marble statue of St. Anthony for a church in New York.

First the rough stone is hammered with a pitching hammer, then sculpted with special pointing tools and files. Skilled marble artists are able to achieve astonishing detail from the hard, brittle stone.

In religious imagery, Saint Anthony of Padua is especially beloved; apart from the Holy Family, he is the probably the only saint depicted with the Christ Child. But what is noticeable in these depictions is the fact that the Child Jesus tenderly puts his hand on the saint’s face, as if to simultaneously embrace him and bless him. It is a picture that evokes a child’s love toward his parent and the parent’s love toward his child.

Today we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Lucy.

“Much of her history has been lost but one story that surrounds her is that like so many of the early martyrs, Lucy had consecrated her virginity to God, and she hoped to devote all her worldly goods to the service of the poor.

Her mother, Eutychia, arranged a marriage for her, but for three years she managed to postpone the marriage. Lucy prayed at the tomb of Saint Agatha to change her mother’s mind about her faith. As a result, her mother's long haemorrhagic illness was cured, and she consented to Lucy's desire to live for God.”

St. Lucy’s name means “light” or “lucid” and is known for being the patron saint of eyes; the blind, eye trouble, and other eye ailments. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-lucy-83

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The image of Our Lady is full of symbols that were meant to teach the Aztec people who she was and highlight her closeness to the local population.
Instead of the typical “white” Madonna, Our Lady of Guadalupe appears with the complexion of the indigenous people. More specifically she is a mestizo, a combination of Mexican and Spanish, indicating that she is for all people. Her eyes are cast downwards, indicating to them that she was not a god and symbolizing humility. The gaze is also one of compassion and motherly tenderness. Her hair is loose, indicating that she was a virgin maiden.
Behind the lady are the rays of a sun. This meant she was greater than their Aztec sun god.

This past weekend we celebrated the Feast Day of St. Juan Diego.

“On December 9, 1531, when Juan Diego was on his way to morning Mass, the Blessed Mother appeared to him on Tepeyac Hill, the outskirts of what is now Mexico City. She asked him to go to the Bishop and to request in her name that a shrine be built at Tepeyac, where she promised to pour out her grace upon those who invoked her. The Bishop, who did not believe Juan Diego, asked for a sign to prove that the apparition was true. On 12 December, Juan Diego returned to Tepeyac. Here, the Blessed Mother told him to climb the hill and to pick the flowers that he would find in bloom. He obeyed, and although it was winter time, he found roses flowering. He gathered the flowers and took them to Our Lady who carefully placed them in his mantle and told him to take them to the Bishop as "proof". When he opened his mantle, the flowers fell on the ground and there remained impressed, in place of the flowers, an image of the Blessed Mother, the apparition at Tepeyac.”

Today is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

On March 25, the Blessed Virgin told Bernadette in the dialect of Lourdes, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” This dogma had been defined by Pope Pius IX just a few years earlier on December 8, 1854.

"The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin."
Mary was granted this extraordinary privilege because of Her unique role in history as the Mother of God. That is, she received the gift of salvation in Christ from the very moment of her conception. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/solemnity-of-the-immaculate-conception-of-the-blessed-virgin-77
