I want to introduce you to someone.

This is my great grandmother. She’s sitting in between her parents, my great-great grandparents in their home. She was not only a college graduate but as a widow would go on to become one of the first black women to purchase a home without their spouse in East Cleveland, Ohio.

She co purchased alongside her single sister and together they raised generations. The house I grew up in had a double winding staircase and a glass door at the top. With a 6ft grand piano in our music room I have so many memories there.

I’m not a first generation anything. I come from a long line of success. I have unicorn blood in me. So when I create, and work and DREAM… it’s not from a place of wanting to impress my ancestors. It’s out of an obligation to live as courageous as they did.

Entrepreneurship has its seasons. I remember being so overwhelmed with my schedule that I couldn’t keep up with the demands of practices, games and the list of activities! It felt like I was always MISSING SOMETHING. Shifting to licensing was not just about revenue. It was about OWNING my time. Being able to reduce my client load and ultimately spend time where it’s most important.

The most irresponsible decision I’ve ever made has become the greatest investment! In 2015 I launched a company knowing my income was solely responsible for raising him.

With a Masters in Public Administration SURELY I could just “get a job in my field”.

Here we are 11 years later and that same business is alive and well. Instead of getting a job in my field I LICENSE in it 😅.
