Every hard working forester…student…. needs play time! We want to thank Virginia Forestry Association, and The Preserve at Crooked Run for hosting this great event and inviting our forestry students along with Virginia Tech forestry students to join the VFA members. Pretty cool to see our alumni, as forestry professionals, on teams with our current students! Now that is networking fun.

“Hey that was fun. When are we coming back?” We will be back to The Preserve for more work and play very soon. Stay tuned….

End of Week 2 - Road Trip #1 for the year. Forest Stewards Guild field day in Fayette County , WV learning about forest management practices to improve bird habitat in Appalachian hardwood forests! Aurora Sustainable Lands were outstanding hosts along with Landmark Forestry and all involved in the day.

Hey students…. How do you learn about forest management?

Let’s Do This 2026-2027!!

Introducing our new member but not new in so many ways around the MGCC Forestry program; adjunct professor Mr. Trevor Saville! ‘08 program alumni, VT bachelor’s, VT Masters and a jack of all trades. He will bring a lot of practical knowledge to the students.

Timber Harvesting course students learning chainsaw parts, maintenance, and cutting their semester buddy! Oh…. No , No we aren’t cutting our friends!! Each student built their own chainsaw chain “buddy” they will be carrying with them. These students will only be allowed to use their own chain and are required to maintain it throughout the course. Learning proper chain care will become priority one for each one, we are sure.

Look what we found in behind an office desk! Sure did find a whole lot of other stuff back there that was not necessarily antique treasure like this!

Anyone know the years this was used? I have heard about a “red patch” but never saw pictures or actual…. until now!
