CFD Juniors met this morning for their first drill of 2021. The group reviewed the equipment carried on the Engine, Truck and Squad. After reviewing the apparatus, CFD Juniors moved to Dumont pond to train on portable pump operations.

Squad 45 and Hazmat 45 both carry portable pumps as Hazmat 45 & Squad 45 respond for basement dewatering assignments in our primary. Squad 45 also utilizes the pump on Rapid Intervention Team incidents, the pump would be used in the event a Firefighter fell through a floor into a flooded basement caused by firefighting operations.

Juniors meet 2 Sunday’s a month at 9a, if you or someone you know is interested in becoming part of our team come check us out any Monday night or send us an email via our website.

Tonight, the crew practiced radio communications and team building. One group had a tabletop full of Legos while the other group had the instructions in another room. Via radio communication the groups had to work together in order to put the set together.

In rural Hunterdon County, hydrants are not always readily available nearby a fire. Many times CFD is deployed as a fill engine on the Hunterdon County Tender Task Force, where a fill site is set up in order to fill water tenders who then shuttle the water to the fire, dump into large dump tanks, then return to the fill site to repeat the process.

Tonight the men visited several draft site locations in the Town of Clinton. They were tasked with setting up a draft using Engine 45 and then deployed a handline off the apparatus. Because time is a precious commodity in the fire service, the evolutions were timed and repeated several times at different locations. The fastest evolution was completed in approximately 6 minutes! Nice job by all.

CFD Junior Drill 3/28/18

Juniors practiced following a hoseline out of a structure. They were faced with 200 feet of hose scrambled throughout the apparatus bays and through various wall studs and entanglement props. For the final evolution, the crew practiced RIT procedures and dragging a downed firefighter through the obstacles and out of the building. Nice job by all!
