Some cases stay with you long after the paperwork is filed.

In this case, a mother came to us with a concern that every parent fears: she believed her child’s father was drinking while driving with their toddler son in the vehicle.

Our surveillance team began documenting the facts.

Day after day, investigators observed the same disturbing pattern. After work, the father would pick up his young son from daycare, stop at a convenience store, and purchase large beers. During the drive from Knoxville to Lenoir City, he consumed them while his toddler sat strapped into the back seat.

Later that evening, before driving home to Knoxville, he would stop again to purchase additional alcohol.

Our team meticulously documented each stop, each purchase, and each discarded beer can. We monitored his driving behavior, preserved evidence, and repeatedly attempted to involve law enforcement when it appeared the child was in immediate danger.

Unfortunately, officers were never close enough to intervene during those moments.

But documentation matters.

The evidence collected by our investigators provided the court with a clear picture of what was occurring behind closed doors and behind the wheel. As a result, an emergency order was entered granting the mother custody until the father could seek treatment and demonstrate that he could safely parent his child.

This isn’t a story about punishment.

It’s a story about protection.

When children are involved, assumptions aren’t enough. Concerns must be supported by credible, legally obtained evidence that allows attorneys and judges to make informed decisions.
