Building wealth isn’t about chasing perfect timing — it’s about making smart decisions consistently over time.

These are a few of the core principles we believe can help create long-term financial confidence. If you have questions about your own situation or just want a second opinion, we’d be happy to connect.

The paycheck gets all the attention.
The cost of living tells the real story.

Meanwhile Iowa is over here quietly doing what Iowa does best — being underrated.

Continued education is a big part of staying sharp in this industry.

Excited to have completed another course toward the WMCP®️ (Wealth Management Certified Professional®️) designation. The program takes a deeper dive into investment planning, retirement strategies, portfolio construction, and long-term wealth management concepts.

One thing I’ve always appreciated about this profession is that no matter how much experience you gain, there’s always another level of knowledge and perspective to develop.

A Roth IRA is one of my favorite tools to use when helping people build long-term wealth.

The ability to grow investments tax-free and potentially take qualified withdrawals completely tax-free in retirement can be incredibly powerful over time.

For younger investors especially, consistency and time matter more than trying to be perfect. Small contributions made early can make a major difference down the road.

I also like the flexibility Roth IRAs provide compared to many other retirement accounts.

At Felton Financial, we believe financial planning should be personal, easy to understand, and built around your specific goals — not a one-size-fits-all approach.

A Roth IRA is one of the tools we often use to help clients work toward those goals over the long run.

Most people graduate with a degree… but not always a roadmap.

Here are 9 things I believe matter for building a strong start after graduation:
1. Start with a plan
Write down your goals. Direction matters.
2. Build your knowledge
Keep learning even after school ends.
3. Build your network
Relationships open doors that résumés can’t.
4. Manage your money
Live below your means early. Future you will thank you.
5. Take care of your health
Energy and discipline are advantages.
6. Be reliable
Doing what you say you’ll do goes a long way.
7. Embrace challenges
Growth usually comes from discomfort.
8. Find mentors
Learn from people already where you want to be.
9. Be patient and persistent
Most success takes longer than people think.

Small habits and consistency compound over time.

Best of luck to those who will be graduating soon and starting their next chapter.

“Upper-middle class” looks different in the Midwest.

In states like Iowa, it starts around $110k–$120k—far lower than the $150k+ you’ll see on the coasts.

That matters.

Here, your dollar goes further… which creates more opportunity to build real wealth—if you’re intentional.

Income is the starting point. What you do with it is what separates outcomes.

Cool moment last night.

Got to speak at the Iowa State Investment Club—years after being the one sitting in the room.

Pretty humbling to be on the other side of it now, knowing how much those conversations can stick with you.

Grateful for the chance to give back. Thanks Iowa State—until next time.

The S&P 500 isn’t as “evenly diversified” as many assume.

A few things stand out:

• Information Technology now makes up over 30% of the index
• Just a handful of companies account for a significant portion of total market value
• Many sectors have relatively small weightings by comparison

This is a good reminder that index performance is often driven by a smaller group of companies, rather than the full 500.

Understanding what you actually own—especially inside broad market funds—is an important part of the conversation.

Since late February, gasoline prices have surged across much of the world following the start of the Iran conflict. The U.S. is up ~35%, while some countries have seen increases exceeding 70–100%.

A few observations:

• Energy remains one of the most sensitive inputs in the global economy
• Geopolitical events can quickly impact everyday costs
• Inflation is influenced by more than monetary policy—supply chains and commodities play a major role

For investors, this is a reminder that market movements are often tied to broader global dynamics.

The focus isn’t on predicting events like this, but on maintaining a long-term strategy that accounts for uncertainty.

Imagine starting your financial life down $40,000.

That’s reality for millions of Americans.

Student debt isn’t just a number—
it shapes decisions for years.

Where you live.
When you invest.
If you buy a home.
