Wonder how we got our start?

A little Oat Valley Vineyards history...

Located just north of Cloverdale, the Oat Valley property has been in our family since 1870. The area was named “Oat Valley” by our ancestor who homesteaded the land. When he first rode onto the land on horseback in 1870, the wild oats were so tall they came up to his waist. Hence the name, “Oat Valley.”

As descendants of the original land owner, we formed the business called Oat Valley Vineyards, LLC in 1996, continuing the family’s uninterrupted production of grapes since the days when our original ancestor was part of the first winery in the area.

Our grapes are harvested under the Alexander Valley Viticultural Appellation. The land’s Carignan grapes were planted early in the previous millennium by the son of the first land owner. These grapes currently are among those that go into the production of some of our award-winning wines.

Our splendidly gnarly, old vine Carignane. These vines produce luscious, estate bottled, gold medal winning wine.
