Tropical Storm Edouard to Strengthen Before Making Landfall on Texas-Louisiana Coastline This Afternoon

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) is monitoring Tropical Storm Edouard as it continues to move west along the Louisiana and Texas coastline.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects Edouard to strengthen prior to making landfall this afternoon near the Texas-Louisiana border. Rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches are possible beginning this afternoon, with some isolated totals of up to 9 inches.

The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Flood Watch has been extended to 7:00 pm Wednesday for Harris County.

What should you do?

Residents are encouraged to be at a safe location by midafternoon on Tuesday. Continue to monitor roadway conditions through Wednesday. Street flooding is possible in areas where the heaviest rain falls. Before getting on the road, check the Houston TranStar live traffic map for information on road conditions.

STAY WEATHER AWARE. Monitor media sources for severe weather information. Follow weather safety advice from the National Weather Service and other official sources.

HAVE MULTIPLE WAYS TO RECEIVE WEATHER ALERTS and be ready to take action should conditions change quickly.

HCESD 12 proudly celebrated two significant milestones in our department's history.
We honored our firefighters who have successfully completed their probationary period with a formal Pinning Ceremony, recognizing their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving our community. Earning the privilege to wear the HCESD 12 badge is no small accomplishment, and these firefighters have proven themselves ready to answer the call with professionalism, courage, and integrity.

We also held a Push-In Ceremony to officially place our new ladder truck into service. Rooted in fire service tradition, this ceremony symbolizes more than the arrival of a new apparatus. It represents our continued investment in protecting the citizens we serve and our commitment to providing the highest level of emergency response.

This was a reminder that while equipment and technology continue to evolve, the heart of the fire service remains unchanged: dedicated men and women answering the call to help others.
