This week we wanted to take time to thank our area Farm Service Agency offices by delivering some treats and a caffeine boost! These dedicated FSA staff work incredibly hard for our farmers and ranchers and we could not do our jobs very effectively without their help.

Farmers don't purchase crop insurance expecting to use it.

They purchase it for the same reason families insure their homes or businesses insure their property: hoping they'll never need it.

When disaster strikes, crop insurance isn't designed to replace the value of a healthy harvest. Instead, it helps farmers pay their bills, recover from unexpected losses, and continue farming into the next season.

It's not about guaranteeing profits, it's about providing a safety net that helps keep farms operating through some of their most challenging years.

When farms can recover, families, rural communities, and America's food supply all benefit.

CROP INSURANCE LOSS EXPERIENCE IN 2025: MORE OF THE SAME

For the entire crop insurance program, crop insurance payments relative to total premiums for the 2025 crop year were below the average for the last ten years. Corn and soybeans had lower relative losses than wheat, which had lower relative losses compared to cotton, rice, and peanuts. The relative loss experience across crops in 2025 is typical of historical experience. Moreover, net benefits from crop insurance were lowest in the Midwest compared to other parts of the country. Again, that geographical performance is typical. Overall, 2025 was a typical loss performance year, meaning that greater support was provided to cotton, peanuts, and rice than to corn, soybeans, and wheat.

Happy Independence Day!

This year marks a historic milestone as America celebrates its 250th anniversary.

Throughout those 250 years, farmers and ranchers have played a vital role in building and sustaining our nation. They have fed communities, supported local economies, and helped ensure a reliable food supply through periods of prosperity and challenge alike.

Agriculture remains one of the foundations of America's strength, and the resilience demonstrated by farm families generation after generation continues to shape the future of rural America.

As we celebrate Independence Day, we also recognize the people whose commitment to the land helps keep America growing.

On 2025 wheat, PLC beats ARC-CO in every single county across all 15 states. Not most counties. Every one.
