NYCFC Groundskeeper
Position Summary:
The groundskeeper will assist in running the day-to-day field operations at the New York City Football Club training center located in Orangeburg, N.Y.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
• Plan and execute maintenance program to insure a safe and professional level playing surface.
• Develop and implement IPM program.
• Calibrate and perform all applications of pesticides and fertilizers.
• Ability to safely operate all types of equipment in turfgrass maintenance including but not limited to mower, tractor, aerifier, and sprayer.
• Perform regular maintenance on equipment.
• Monitor irrigation and soil moisture levels and adjust accordingly.
• Maintain irrigation system and complete minor repairs.
• Perform field testing weekly and supply report to the coaching staff
• Schedule the turf maintenance program to work around the schedule of the team.
• Communication with coaching staff weekly on the condition of the fields as well as any maintenance work that is scheduled.
Educational/Skill Requirements:
• Preferred candidate will have a two- or four-year degree in turfgrass management.
• Experience related to sports turf management is a plus
• Preferred candidate will be a Certified Sports Field Manger (CSFM). If not a CSFM certificate holder we will offer guidance into obtaining the certification.
• Working knowledge of the cultural practices required for Kentucky Bluegrass at a professional soccer level.
• Ability to layout and paint soccer field lines.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
• Must have a valid and clean driver’s license.
• Must have a current New York pesticide license or obtain one in six months.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

• Candidate to be self-motivated and work independently
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly in both writing and verbally.

I am sorry this page has gone dark recently. We still have a turf minor, but sadly adminstration decided to shut down our Bachelor and Associate turf programs.

2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Reports to: Senior Assistant Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendent
Supervises: All groundskeeping staff
Classification: Exempt
Education and/or Experience
• A degree or advanced knowledge of agronomy, horticulture, plant, or soil science preferred.
• One turf management internship is preferred.
• Desire to become a Golf Course Superintendent.

Job Summary
The 2nd Assistant Superintendent is tasked with supporting the Senior Assistant and Golf Course Superintendent through daily golf course maintenance.

Essential Functions

Leadership
o Promotes a positive work culture.
o Manage golf course maintenance staff on weekends and lead small projects.

Golf Functions
o Directly involved with the daily golf course set up activities.
o Involved with irrigation maintenance and repair.
o Responsible for calibration and application of chemicals and fertilizers.
o Manage daily course moisture using POGO meter
o Track data and seasonal fertility w Greenkeeper app

Administration
o Administer proper safety training and briefings to staff when training in equipment and general course operation.
o Protect the Snowmass Club’s interest through an awareness of and compliance with all applicable regulations including course and company policies.

Other Functions
• Able to evaluate the course from the player’s perspective.
• Snow removal during winter months
• Assist equipment manager with equipment setup, repair, and maintenance.
• GCSAA member preferred.

Licenses and Special Requirements
• Valid driver’s license
• Must obtain and maintain state sanctioned pesticide applicator license within 6 months of entry into this job.
• Knowledge of irrigation including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells, and automatic controls and drainage.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock.
• Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling/lifting to 100 pounds.

Hey Cobleskill Alumni!
Does anyone have interest or know someone interested in teaching Horticulture Crop Production and/ or Woody Plants this fall as an adjunct faculty member?
You/they will be expected to teach the materials already built for woodies and Hort crop - that way there is guaranteed college level material, and much less prep time.

Sad News. I was lucky to have Gary as a student.
The GCSA of NY announces with great sorrow the passing of Gary Powers on June 26, 2023 after a 3 1/2 year battle with glioblastoma,

Gary was the Superintendent at Lancaster Country Club and served as the President of the Western New York Golf Course Superintendents Association.

Our deepesy sympathy to all the family and friends.
