This summer is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. One highlight was a Father’s Day trip to Chicago to visit my two brothers and their families. They’ve called Evanston home for years, and it’s easy to see why, the Lake Michigan shoreline on Chicago’s north side is a little slice of heaven.

Of course, I may be biased. Between my brothers, I have five nieces, and getting to spend time with all of them is always special. My brothers also know how to show me a great time in Chicago. We took the train downtown to catch a USA World Cup game, packed into a bar with what felt like half the country, and watched our guys pull off a win. Afterward, we grabbed drinks along the newly renovated Chicago Riverwalk, watched the boats go by, and finished the day with a Marcus King Band show at the old Morton Salt factory. Not bad for one day! On Father’s Day, two of my nieces took their dad golfing, and I got to tag along. It poured rain the entire round, but we didn’t care, we had a blast.

Last winter, I told myself that when summer arrived, I was going to make the most of it, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. There’s nothing more important or fulfilling than spending time with family and friends, especially those we don’t get to see often. With everything happening in the world, those moments are a reminder of what really matters and that we’re all part of something bigger than ourselves.

So get out there and make the time while you can. You won’t regret it.
