I'm excited to partner with the local SME chapter to offer an Introduction to Lean class on January 3, 2019. We will be doing a simulation to give you some hands on experience with how to create flow and eliminate waste. I hope you can join us, it should be a really fun way to get to learn a little more about Lean and how it can help your business lower the cost of doing business (better, faster, cheaper).

SME Spokane is hosting a class on Lean Manufacturing, taught by Tim Poling (of Boeing fame). This class is free of charge, but SME 248 asks for a $5 donation to support our student scholarship fund. Have you heard about the power of Lean to lower the cost of doing business? Would your company benefi...

I'm looking for feedback. Would you be willing to submit your thoughts?

Using a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 = this is a new idea, and 5 = I have fully embraced this and have incorporated it into my business.

How would you rate your relationship with the word stability? Why?

Introduction to the topic of waste from The Lean Connection meeting on 4-17-18

In my last post, I asked the question “What is your relationship with the word change?”. Do you have positive or negative emotions associated with change? Typically change that is done to us doesn’t feel good and we tend to resist it. But when change is something we initiate it is exciting and we readily embrace it. So, change is neutral, it is our reaction to it that makes it feel good or bad.

Other times you are in the middle, you feel stuck and know you need to make changes, but not sure exactly how to do it. Are you going to resist or ignore it? Or are you going to embrace the opportunity and move forward? Maybe you need to ask for help to get unstuck. Change can be hard, don’t do it alone.

What is Lean?

I like how the Lean Enterprise Institute (www.lean.org) puts it. "The core idea is to maximize customer value while minimizing waste. Simply, lean means creating more value for customers with fewer resources. A lean organization understands customer value and focuses its key processes to continuously increase it. The ultimate goal is to provide perfect value to the customer through a perfect value creation process that has zero waste."

What is the value you are providing to your customers? Are your key processes focused on increasing that value?
