Most trousers fail at the details no one thinks to check.
The seam that opens after ten washes. The pocket that pulls. The fabric that holds its shape in the store and loses it by Thursday.
Cotton is one of the most forgiving fibers to work with. It is also one of the easiest to get wrong.
Twill or canvas. 7oz or 12oz. Bartacked or not. Sanforized or raw. Every decision compounds. The trouser that feels effortless to wear is the result of someone making the right call at each one.

Lamb and sheep leather is the softest, lightest, thinnest commercial leather you can buy.
Lambskin comes from young sheep. Finer grain. More delicate. Can be under 0.6mm thick. Used for luxury jackets and high-end fashion where softness matters more than durability.
Sheepskin comes from mature sheep. Slightly coarser grain but still soft. More durable. Hide size is 4 to 9 square feet.
The fibers are hollow. That makes it breathable. Warm in winter, cool in summer. It also contains natural lanolin, which makes it antibacterial.
Then there's shearling. That's sheepskin tanned with the fleece left on. The wool side is worn inside for insulation. Used for coats, boots, and linings.

Mohair comes from the Angora goat. Not the Angora rabbit. Different animal, different fiber.
It's one of the most lustrous natural fibers. Reflects light with a silk-like sheen. Takes dye better than almost any other fiber, producing deep, vibrant colors that hold.
It's also one of the strongest. More durable than wool. Resists pilling. Does not felt because the scales on the fiber are undeveloped.
The grade depends on the age of the goat. Super Kid mohair is under 24 microns. Kid is 24 to 29 microns. Adult fiber is 30 to 40 microns. Finer fiber goes into clothing. Coarser fiber goes into upholstery and carpets.

Not all yarn is the same.
Ring spun yarn is twisted continuously on a spindle. More fibers stay parallel. The result is softer, stronger, smoother. It can spin very fine counts. But it's slower and costs more.
Open end yarn uses a rotor instead. Up to 8 times faster. Lower cost. But coarser and less uniform.
Then there's carded versus combed.
Carding cleans and aligns fibers. Combing goes further. It removes 15 to 20% more waste. Only the longest fibers remain. Smoother, stronger, finer.
Luxury bedding uses ring spun, combed cotton. Denim uses either. Towels often use open end.
Yarn count (Ne) tells you fineness. Higher number means finer yarn. 10 Ne for heavy denim. 40 Ne for dress shirts. 100+ Ne for luxury sheets.

Yak fiber is not coarse.
The outer coat is. 79-90 microns. That's what you see in photos. But underneath is down: 16-20 microns. As soft as cashmere.
The difference is performance.
30% warmer than merino at the same weight. No lanolin, so hypoallergenic. Absorbs 30% of its weight in moisture. Naturally odor resistant. Fire resistant.
Each yak produces only 300-700 grams of down per year. A sheep produces 3-6 kilograms of wool.

Horsehair:
Horsehair has been used in tailoring for centuries.
Not because there was nothing else. Because nothing else worked as well.
Mane hair: 50-150 microns. Softer. Used where flexibility matters.
Tail hair: 75-280 microns. Coarser. Used where structure matters.
It's lightweight, hollow, temperature regulating, antibacterial, and biodegradable. Springs back after compression.
That's why it's still the standard for bespoke suit canvas, luxury hat stiffening, and fine furniture padding.
