Truth
Small Businesses are in desperate need of your help!
In addition to owning my own retail store and DIY Workshop since 2014, I have been a business coach to other small business owners for 5 years. I have enjoyed seeing so many small businesses grow and thrive over the past years. Hard working, creative business owners shifted and pivoted like rock stars throughout 2020 and came through stronger than ever.
In the past 2 months, I have seen a terrifying trend in small business. Previously thriving businesses are closing left and right. Labor shortages, skyrocketing prices on goods and materials, rising rents, and sheer overwhelm are bringing small businesses to their knees at a truly alarming rate.
Unlike big corporations, we cannot absorb insanely high expense increases on our inventory and supplies. We do not have large financial reserves. We do not operate by running up more and more debt. We operate and support our families on the actual profits we make. Those profits have disappeared almost overnight. We cannot run our businesses without employees. We cannot afford skyrocketing rent and utilities.
Small businesses that have been going strong for years are crumbling in the blink of an eye. Main street shops are thriving one month and closing the next. Please think hard about where you shop. It is so easy to shop online or hit a big box store to get your shopping done in one spot. But there are so many small businesses that need your support NOW. These are the businesses that put money back into your community. These business owners are your neighbors. They are the ones donating to local raffles and supporting local little league teams. These are the fun shops you like to bring family members to when they visit from out of town. They are the unique places that make up your local community.
Whatever you are shopping for this month, there is a local small business that you can support. Please visit your favorite local shops now, or they truly may be gone tomorrow.
